I had to bring Dad to A&E yesterday we got his bloods done to check his hemoglobin levels and they phoned to say they were 6.4 so he needs to get to A&E.
Health system is horrendous here, 7 hours later they did a cross match his levels were 5.9. He got 2 units of blood through the night they did chest xray.. No sleep, rib pain is now worse, but at least he has a bed on the ward. They are checking for infection/antibiotics.
Dad is so upset it's been a hell of a long 24hrs, I don't think he has ever had to stay overnight in hospital in his life.
Has anyone experienced trouble with hemoglobin levels to this extend? It's his 5th transfusion since January. Bone scan was done last Wednesday we have no report yet, CT due this Wednesday which they will hopefully bring forward.
* Age 62 widespread done disease with some. Lymph node involment no organ involvement. Currently taking xtandi, finsihed Xofigo end of December, decapeptyl every 3 months, lots of pain meds oxy Contin / amatrypaline/Mirtaxapine /melatonin / stilnoct
Thank you in advance 🍀

Hi Nickhmcg. My dad had low hemoglobin due to bone marrow infiltration. But there are a few tests they can run. Infections is one. Another is checking for an ulcer (specifically if his numbers seem to be dropping so suddenly).
In my dads case, when we managed to get his pain and inflammation under control his hemoglobin stabilized more.
Praying for your dad. He is too young to be in so much pain.
I’m sorry to hear that your dad and you are having such a rough time. Unfortunately I can’t provide any information regarding his blood levels. It doesn’t sound like your dad’s oncologist and GP are working together to make things easier for him.
I don’t know where in Ireland your dad is based, I’m in north Meath and I attend St. Luke’s at Beaumont hospital in Dublin. Between my GP and the team at St.Luke’s I have received brilliant and timely care. It couldn’t have been a better experience.
I’ll drop the other shoe now; can you change either or both your dad’s GP or medical oncologist? Better care is available, I’m a medical card patient, so it’s not a question of money.
Sorry that I can’t be more helpful, I’ll keep you and your dad in my thoughts.
Hi Hugh, Dad is in St Vincent's. He was in Luke's for his Xofigo infusions they seem really nice in there. It's been a long few days and several consultants have given their input. Pain managment are working on him, radiation oncologist who we love is doing spot radiation to his pelvic bone as he suspects that's where the groin pain is coming from, his primary oncologist is just saying he's not sure what's causing the pain but the disease is active in his bones. So it's a watch and wait now, he will be in until next Friday, another week, but best he's there if anything happens. He is in the private hospital but trust me balls are dropped there just as often x
