I have never experienced fatigue with my Lupron injections for over five years now. I am assuming working out religiously is the reason or I am just lucky.

nuc1111 in reply to mrscruffy

Yes I’ve heard exercises helps- what is you’re routine? Weights?

mrscruffy profile image
mrscruffy in reply to nuc1111

I lift heavy at the gym on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I do cardio on Tuesday and abs on Thursdays. While I have been working out In the gym for three months I had previously worked out at home

Wow you certainly are motivated, im lucky to get time for the gym twice a week.Keep the exercise going & the Lupron has not a chance to give you brain fog, fatigue etc.

Retired so my days need to be filled. Wife still works so home alone is boring

in reply to nuc1111

If you don’t do weight bearing exercises you will lose muscle and bone density if on extended adt. Don’t do it. Cardio is important also . Good luck . Some guys breeze through it. I hope that you brother ! 👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

nuc1111 in reply to

Thanks I’m fearful that will happen anyway but I’ll try to minimize it..

in reply to nuc1111

That is kind of a fact …. the problem is to motivate with no t aboard. I got lethargic . Try to walk and stay active . If we become couch potatoes we can put on weight and put more stress on the heart . Keep trucking! 🎄

Agree, keep your body moving whatever it is. I walk fast 3+ miles 4-5 days and yard work and play golf. Shot a 75 from the white tees /par 72 slope 127. 70 yrs. Nap everyday. Look forward, don’t look back- Zimmerman

Hello nuc111. I only had one 3 monthly shot of Lupron & I was so badly effected I did not go back for the second. If it has bad side effects for you seek other options.

nuc1111 profile image
nuc1111 in reply to ARIES29

Thank you- what if anything did you replace Lupron with?

Lupron shot had such horrible side effects. Within 6 weeks I went from working out 3 days a week to using a walker. Never again.

It is my opinion people on Lupron should not be allowed to drive a car or operate machinery due to the accident I nearly had, I could not stay awake. But they all jump for the Lupron button as soon as prostate cancer gets a mention, It must be the cheapest or they receive more kick backs?

But it does the job if you can stay awake through it.

Weights 3-4 days a week. Legs - especially thighs, being the large muscles that you need to keep strong to walk.Make it a priority to keep you strong to help best your cancer cells.

My leg workout must be working. Last weekend I won an Indian leg wrestling competition beating men from 18 to 41 years old. I was the oldest competitor at 58. My "Granddaughter" talked me into it

My history with postate cancer is a bit different I might add.2012 radiation & continued on with Lupron & casodex. Lupron 1 shot only & casodex was giving me headaches so out they went.

2018 PSA was 18 so was lucky enough to have 2 shots of LU-177. PSA down to 1.6.

2021 PSA up again to 19. Now on Firmagon & PSA is 0.7 with few side effects, some fatigue but hot flushes are the worse.

The ONC has tried pushing me to Lupron again but no way. Firmagon works for me & is also in tablet form in U.S. I believe. Zoladex is similar

You can easily see that the men who lift do well on ADT. Cardio also important. I like plenty of zone 2 myself, but the weights are critical also.

No one can promise you won’t feel and see unwanted differences in your body on Lupron if you lift. You will. But they will be dramatically lessened.

Watch your food too-clean diet and less intake overall. Belly fat coming your way from slowed metabolism if you’re not careful.

Obvious as it is, I add: DO NOT slack off! Ignore any fatigue that tells you to skip workouts. At our age it can become incredibly difficult to recover if we slack for long enough on ADT.

Lots of exercise and reasonable caloric restriction and you’ll do great.

Hi nuc1111,

My ex-hubby, DC, got his 2nd Lupron shot on Dec 8 and he has had very minimal fatigue this time around…nothing like after the first shot. His hot flashes have eased up also. Maybe the “Lupron flu” won’t hit you as hard this time 🙏🏻. Drink plenty of water and get good rest before and after. Juicing with organic greens and other veggies helps beat the fatigue and may make you feel good in general.

I’ve been on Lipton for 4 years or so and feel quite good. As has been mentioned, exercise is key. I walk 3 miles three days/week and do “core” and upper and lower body exercises three days a week. Limit alcohol and have a Mediterranean diet. I do have a bit of an enhanced waist line, however and do take a 15 minute nap if tired. If I don’t get the exercise in in the morning, I have a hard time feeling like working it in…Not perfect, but feel very fortunate. Best wishes as you move ahead!

Just one, maybe for 6 or 9 mos. Recently was advised to stick with what I’m doing—no vacation— as it seem to be working. We never know what the future holds…

Three years in on Lupron! These great men here have the correct advice. Strength train. Personally I use kettlebells 4 days a week and I do swings, getups, strict military presses and squats. The key is to find some exercise you like and get active with it, really experiment with different routines and equipment until you find what you like. It has helped me tremendously with the fatigue and brain fog.

I’ve been getting these for several years now, and yes often times I feel more fatigued than usual for 3-4 days afterwards. I exercise daily which helps, get a good nights rest, eat a healthy diet to help deal with SE’s. Some physicians prescribe low dose Ritalin or Adderal to cope with cancer related fatigue and associated brain fog.

Just had my fourth shot on Monday. Only side effect so far is muscle loss. I also work out at the gym cardio and weights. I’m also taking 50 mg of bicalumide. My psa has dropped to almost nothing. Good luck.

If fatigue is the only side effects you'll be very lucky. I'm on it four years and it's definitely a life changing experience but the key word there is "Life" . Stay active as best you can I just keep puttering around in my garage, walking around the local stores etc. Leo

That was my experience, lasted 5-6 days most times, exercise certainly helps.

If ADT is working then T level is low or nonexistent. So goes energy unless you work at it.

I’ve been on 3 month Lupron for one year. PSA began to drop and then added Zytiga after two months. PSA has been undetectable since last February 2021. In my experience the first few days to a week are not too bad. It’s week two and week three that hit me hardest as far as the fatigue. Best wishes!

I don't want a medal but I contributed money in the beginning of this month. I just want to say the information and camaraderie you receive here is worth it's weight in gold. So for the Holiday season write out a check or charge an amount to your credit/debit card to keep this wonderful organization up and running every day of the year. Thank you!!!
