metal vs plastic ureteral stents

I just had removal of bilateral stent placed in Sept.2021-- the urologist mentioned the possibility of stent failure requiring nephrostomies-- he said he didn't have experience with metal ureteral stents which I inquired about thinking they would withstand the cancer should the tumor grow--- I have been on ADT since Sept 2021--do metal stents require less frequent exchanges than every 3 months? Anyone have metal ureteral stent experience?

thanks for your help

Ed

The memokath pnnmedical.com/ seems to be a good metal stent. As far as I recall, you can leave it in place for two or more years. There are usually only a few doctors using it and they are trained by the manufacturer. So I would inquire with the manufacturer where you can get it done.

I had 32 stents (in and out) from 2007 until 2018. All plastic and every 3 months. Never had any pain or discomfort with the stents. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE AN ANTIBIOTIC FOR EVERY IN OR OUT!!!

J o h n Thanks for that- metal stents marketed as lasting 12 months with less potential for stent failure from external compression but don’t really have the data

I am due for my second stent next month. Was wondering, after you had stents for 10 plus years, do you now have a catheter?

No..... But my left kidney puts out only 15% urine and my right the remaining 85%. The only time I used a foley regarding my Pca is when I had a RPD.....
