Best Cancer Charitable Organization

Contribution question. We would like to make a contribution to a general cancer organization say like the American Cancer Society, as many of our family has been touched by cancer (not just PC).

However, I recall reading that many of these organizations are somewhat suspect in the sense that a very small percentage of contributions actually goes towards cancer research and helping people, with a lot towards lining pockets. I'm having a hard time finding specifics.

Any suggestions regarding those charities worthy of contributions.

Your concern mirrors my own. We get 30-40 letters a week pleading for our dollars plus we have our oun ideas. Fortunately we have help sorting out the marketplace. There are several agencies which analyse the non-profits and rate their transparency and fiscal effectiveness. Most often we turn to Charity Navigator to start our research.

The percent spent on fundraising is a critical factor for small donors. Some "charities" send us weekly mailings, which must cost near a dollar each to print, stuff, and mail. So my $75 gift probably only pays the cost of sending paper for me to recycle. I could go on, but will end my rant with just this example.

Good question compiler.

Personally, I think Malecare is a pretty worthy organization . It was a main force in putting together this forum and in keeping it going. I know Darryl does a lot of work on this and on many other efforts, including a number of other specialized forums. Some of them don't work out but a lot of them do and I think it has become an important resource for prostate cancer patients and their families.

See malecare.org/

Malecare is a tax deductible charity. Checkout the DONATE button on the website for info.

Off the top of my head I can think of three of them:

Malecare

Malecare

Malecare

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
