Hmm... Met with my MO yesterday and happened to discuss DMSO...

Last summer, one of our esteemed members, broached the subject of supplements.

Among them was DMSO (for pain relief) and I decided (after intensive research) to give it a shot.πŸ€”

I mentioned to my MO that I have a roll on (100% strength) that I use on my lower back and get immediate relief.

Also, that I have an amber spray bottle with a 50/50 mix (distilled water) that I apply liberally over my shoulders and hands for added relief.

Finally, I take an eyedropper, sublingually daily (and waited for him to shriek in horror)πŸ‘Ί.

His response: "does it smell like garlic?" and I explained that I use PHARMA grade, no odor DMSO.

So, he looked at last weeks comprehensive blood work, smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said "everything looks good, I'll see you in 3 months"

Finally, my August scans showed no mets (I turn 73 next month and my dx, 3 years ago was G9, but S3).

Seems that I may have just lucked out (with the assistance of my great MSK Docs) and the support and encouragement of everyone on this forum.

Thanks,

Best to all.

The garlic taste forms in your mouth from DMSO metabolism (it isn't a taste of the chemical).

Be careful of what's on your skin as it may carry them through the skin.

Thanks TA,

Well aware of the absorptive properties of DMSO.

All containers are sterile and hands are scrubbed before applying!

We used DMSO. It is important to have cleanly washed hands. I used a spray. It did help pain.

Thanks Scott, (esteemed member!πŸ˜‡)

MO didn't show the slightest concern.

Now, on to Proteolytic Enzymes...

Finished my first bottle and ordered another.

Too early to recommendπŸ€”.

We must try to improve things naturally as much as possible . What do you think about a shake weight to help numb hands? I’m thinking it might shake up the neuropathy some?

westof profile image
westof in reply to

Hmm... What the hell is shake weight??

At first read I thought it was snake awake!πŸ˜ƒ

However, given the fact that I still have low T and the little guy is still dormant (for the time being, hopefully!) I thought that you had discovered Viagra on steroids!πŸ˜‹

Nope! It is a dumbbell that vibrates .

Damn... another med that I had never heard of, that I can buy on the cheap at Tractor Supply. I don't have any horses that need pain relief, but do have a wife, with feet in constant pain from standing all day. Does this make sense for her? (No, I am NOT comparing her to livestock... I reserve that honor for myself, alternating between an ass and the GOAT.)

westof profile image
westof in reply to noahware

Woah!! Don't buy DMSO at "Tractor Supply", guessing that it's industrial grade and not PHARMA 99.99% pure.

You had me confused for a moment...

I pictured her eating oats and hay and you dreaming of entering her in the Kentucky Derby.πŸ‡πŸ˜

noahware profile image
noahware in reply to westof

I'm pretty sure vet grade must be higher than industrial, though probably not quite up to the highest"human grade." That would be worth looking into. After all, major impurities that can easily be absorbed into the skin with potentially serious health effects would not be so good for horses, dogs, etc. just as they wouldn't be for humans.

Regardless of the grade at the production level, I would think the type of container would also be very important... couldn't a high grade leach bad stuff out of an inferior kind of plastic, transforming into a less pure lower grade?

I am not suggesting TSC as the best source for the highest grade... but lol, if you look at the reviews for the product at TSC, most of them are regarding personal use, not animal use! (Unless of course it is the animals writing the reviews... you never know.)

westof in reply to noahware

LOL, I like your sense of humor...

Good point! My liquid comes in glass, however, the roll on is plastic.

I'll look into it and keep you posted.

Thanks

How do you get pharma grade DMSO?

Amazon (DMSO Store). They have a variety of products. Liquids, roll on and creams.

The one in the photo is their brand.

Great news Westof,

I'm thinking of doing something similar, I'm getting fed up with all the differing pains. I'm really pleased for you.

Stage 3. At the time of my dx, my RO explained that it appeared that the cancerous cells remained within the prostate (later confirmed by the scans, showing no mets).

Knowing that I was G9 and that my PSA kept doubling from 4 to 28 within a year, I asked him if I had 3-5 quality years left. He looked me in the eye and said "were looking more like twenty".

This made me the perfect candidate for HDR Brachy, 25 days of IMRT and hormone therapy.

The MSK docs were great and my se's were minimal (libido loss and very minor occasional bouts of fatigue).

Hope this helps.

dhccpa profile image
dhccpa in reply to westof

Yes thanks. I was diagnosed as metastatic so I tend not to think of stages as much. Much more important in your case.

VERY VERY VERY interesting article on DMSO at lifeextension.com

From lifeextension order page. They sell it in a plastic container. Not good.

They appear to be the most expensive source. Maybe good. I know that they are sticklers on quality assurance.

westof profile image

Hmm... Point well taken.

Now, I have to look for glass roll on containers.

ThanksπŸ‘.

cesces profile image
cesces in reply to westof

I strongly prefer lifeextension, but lack of a glass container is a deal killer for me.

DMSO already starts out with too many unknown unknowns.

Why court extra ones?

I think I go with vitacost.

westof profile image
westof in reply to cesces

For once (and only once!!) I disagree with Nal.

I went to vitacost and found that everything is plastic (notice the 4 oz blue plastic bottle, with the tree as a logo?)

That was the first one that I bought and I still have 2 oz left!

The stuff from the DMSO store comes well packaged (in Styrofoam) and the liquid comes in glass.

cesces profile image
cesces in reply to westof

Hmmm I didn't notice that.

I think a glass container is sort of important

I was born in LIC (Boulevard Hospital, is it still there?).

Lived in Jackson Heights until I was 7 and then Dad was transferred to Dallas.

Being a small smart ass kid from NYC, I was considered illegal.

Got beat up a few times (mildly. 7 year old's don't do much damage), however, I learned to defend myself both physically and verbally.

I have no idea why I wrote this reply (maybe 2 Bloody Mary's?).

j-o-h-n profile image
j-o-h-n in reply to westof

Here's your answer: Boulevard Hospital was a 234-bed private hospital in Queens, NY.

History:

Boulevard was owned by a group of 24 doctors. The hospital lost its payment stream from Medicaid and Medicare and closed.

Two years prior they had fired their administrator, who provided authorities with evidence that facilitated investigating alleged improprieties, including "improperly withheld refunds due thousands of patients and used hospital employees for the owners' personal chores.

Now Jackson Heights is more like New Delhi Heights....

Have a bloody Mary on me............

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Hi Westof,I'm trying to find people with cancer using DMSO.

I have metastatic breast cancer and was advised to use it to get rid of the bone mets.

What's your experience?

Thanks a lot
