Has anyone had any experience with Dr Matthew Smith at Mass general hospital in Boston. And if so what is your opinion?

Thanks. He is presently my MO. He is extremely busy and my visits with him are very rushed. However, I believe I am getting good treatment.

That's the trade-off. Everyone wants the best doctors, so they get very busy and meetings are rushed. Some patients want more hand-holding from their MO. Some want a more nerdy doctor who really knows what's on the cutting edge. Hard to find both in one MO.

I totally agree. Given a choice, I’ll take the nerdy option any day.

I had a visit with him for a second opinion two years ago. Very surprised, that he was prepared, conversant, and answered a follow up communication.

If possible,

I suggest going to pc patient groups - easy way to trade consumer stories, and find out who is good.

Thanks for your reply. I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say “pc patient groups”. How would I locate them?

There's one at Beth Israel, and one at DFCI.

Thank you. I’ll look into them.

I feel you are trivializing a very important concern.

I travelled 1,500 miles to consult with him for a 2nd opinion. Very smart but seemingly ill prepared for my visit. Spend most of the time going over the history that I had forwarded in advance. After 30 minutes he walked me to the door. It was obvious that that he was very busy and didn’t have the time to answer my questions. Disappointing visit given the time and expense to travel to Boston.

It’s become obvious to me that quick visits is Dr. Smith’s way of operating. I thought it might just be me but apparently not. I will have to consider whether a change is in my best interest. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. I hope that things have turned out well for you.
