Dead or Alive

Have been taking Xtandi and Lupron for nearly four years following chemotherapy. Medications have effects. Some are desirable, some are undesirable. My PSA is down from a high of 59.9 to around an average of about 5. I am still alive. The 6-month dose of Lupron kicks my butt for several weeks after the jab. When I do the calculus on gain/pain I am satisfied that it is worth it. I like being alive.

Life is Good. I chose an orchiectomy over "Lupron for life" as my personal choice.

I’m leaning that way as well if it ends up that I have to take Lupron and abiraterone for life.

Im leaning that way too, I'll never be off Lupron. If a miracle happens. there is always injectable T.

After my biopsy and scan results were finally obtained the urologist told me I needed to start immediately with ADT and as he began explaining the *pro's and con's* I stopped him immediately AND SAID I WANT A BILATERAL ORCHIECTOMY. Following a couple of *but-but,* the appointment was made for the next day. Soprano rehearsals began 26 hours later.

My mo made me wait for 18 months. To be sure? He said. To be sure of what? I thought. After 18 months of luppey I was more than ready to chop chop.

I have had from my first bit of research regarding ADT and the possible side effects the utmost admiration for all who have chosen to follow that path. I've always felt that my guillotining of the boys was the EASY WAY OUT. They're gone and so there's no TUG OF WAR of testicles hanging around wanting to do their job but chemicals telling them not to work or chemicals telling the body to fuggedaboutit r.e. what's being made.

That was my choice also. I had mine done in April 2021 and have put on about 5 lbs. Diet and exercise the same. I have to change something.

Is that a Wood Mizer? I follow a guy on YouTube who uses one.

Yes, its a woodmizer LT15. Bought it in 2005 and it will do a log 27"diax 17 1/2 ft long. I've done logs up to 24 ft long but its a hassle. Love it.

After my ORCHIE I managed to keep the weight down by doing the best I could continuing "fast bicycling and speed walking." Not only did the extra effort make me feel good about myself it BURNT CALLORIES!!! so I could eat like I used too.👍👍

My gym reopened allowed to use equipment 2 days a week but have to wear a mask. Hard to breath when I get the HR up. I E bike here in the mountains, but not consecutive days. My goal of 1000 miles this year is well short, now at 470 miles. I eat a healthy diet but it's volumn thats killing me. Having family over tonight celebrating 54 married years. Will make an exception on that diet. Bob

I wasn't aware that 6-months doses of Lupron existed. Thought it was either 3 or 4. Mine is every 4 months. Yes side effects suck but I still enjoy being alive. Best wishes to you.

My Lupron is every 6 months for the last 4 and a half years. Seems to be working for me but .... is a Lupron shot every 3 months more effective? Why do they call them side effects? Should be expected effects.

Mascouche profile image
Mascouche in reply to monte1111

The expected effect is a lowering of testosterone. The side effects are the undesirable shit that may potentially hit us. If the adt was an army's bomb, the undesirable shit would be collateral damage.

Some have reported lesser side effects in the first few weeks from a 3 month shot vs a 6 month shot. Something you might ask your doctor about.

I've had 4 months and 6 month jabs, both equally miserable for about 3 weeks.

Yes, agree w John in PA. Makes sense. 3 mos inject is less volume all at once than 6 months. My side effects are all there, but spread evenly over the 3 mos, not heavy upfront. Best of luck,

Mike
