Husband had kidney function problem and not supposed to have contrast. CC did not listen and did it anyway on a 3 hr. MRI. Now, all his kidney functions on labs are bad, out of range, as well as high calcium and potassium levels. They still insist on contrast with scans but I said no. Anyone have the same problem and how do you handle this.

Anyone have kidney disease and cannot have contrast?
I suggest you discuss this issue with a Radiologist with an MRI specialty, preferably someone who works in a University setting (..... these Univ. Radiologists often have a CAQ = Certificate of Additional Qualifications). The most common CAQ involving MRI is likely Neuro-MRI & a Neuro-Radiologist might be the easiest to find. MRI is their specialty and they are the most likely to be on top of any MRI issues and any options (e.g., lower contrast dose, different MRI sequences, etc.). Normally, one does not see Radiology Doc's but they are the one's most likely to know about all things MRI.
Okay clue me in who's CC? I know this doesn't help his ailments but you should see an attorney because you have a great case there. Didn't they make him read/sign an info form regarding "contrast" issues/warning affecting kidneys. Hopefully he didn't read it or sign it.
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
