My husband just started taking Xtandi (about a week in) and has put on about 7 pounds in just a few days and is wheezing. Also, he suffers from congestive heart failure. With it being the weekend, prob can’t get in touch with the doctor. I may suggest to him to not take the Xtandi for a day. I think we should go to the hospital but he disagrees.

Fluid retention and xtandi
He may want to increase his diuretics until he can talk to his cardiologist.
If he has heart failure and he is retaining fluids (7 pounds) and he is wheezing, you should strongly consider to go to the ER, since those are symptoms of decompensation of the heart failure.
Xtandi can and does ( in me ) affect the heart. Always err on the side of safety and take him to the hospital immediately. Way better safe than sorry. Don’t delay.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just FYI: I put on nearly 80 pounds in 5 months with Xtandi.
Candy i can believe but xtandi? Did you take it with a hoagie?
LOL
I was losing 17 pounds a week when diagnosed… then I started Lupron Xtandi and …..while eating the same food every day , I was quickly up to 80 pounds more than when I started. I can eat bushels of carbs and my weight never changes 5 pounds in last 2 1/2 years. Now I’m on a strict keto diet … 50 carbs… 1000 calories a day for regulation of my blood glucose… weight still never changing 5 pounds. My doctors kinda like me heavy , say it could give me weeks of extra time based on my circumstances at DX when my weight was in free fall. My weight plunge at DX freaked out the hammer … she kinda likes me heavier too. More to “ cuddle “ with she likes to say. Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya
You have a great heart and attitude...I lost about 30 and now I gained 15 back. Not as compliant with the diet...too much beer...I like it too much. Now that I'm off zytiga we'll see if I can drop that 15. I feel better already...no more afternoon nap
Doctor time I believe. Temporary halt to Xtandi is probably ok, but is that what is causing the problem? I'm not a doc, but as others urge, no harm in seeing a doc. Aren't men stubborn? Except for TomTom, he is obtuse.
Please take your husband to the ER right away!!! Your doctor may pause or stop the Xtandi... pausing the Xtandi for a day may be okay. Information from Xtandi's website in regards to your situation is here -> xtandi.com/side-effects / (My dose was reduced to 80mg by my doctor and is still effective ) ...
All this time I thought it was the ADT treatment. 🤣. Been on Xtandi for 4 1/2 years. Gained 20 pounds total since starting on the stuff. You can alway call the pharmacy at Xtandi. They have a full time group to answer your questions. Good luck warrior
Read the package insert. Your husband is exhibiting signs of congestive heart failure and ischemic heart disease. He should not wait. If he has diuretics he should take them. Take away the salt in cooking and the salt shaker at the table
Does he take water pills?
Yes, he takes Lasix. He took an extra one and is down to his normal weight now. Did not stop taking the Xtandi. The xtra weight has happened a few times prior to starting the Xtandi so it may not even be associated with the Xtandi. We will have to let his cardiologist know. Thx
Well, Madbeach, from all of the answers you can see most of us are mad as hell which has made us all mad as a hatter. Glad that it looks like things are mostly resolved for now. As TA once said, taking advice from a guy on the internet may not be the best way forward. Something like that, I don't want to presume to put words into his mouth. Best of wishes to you.
