I saw something earlier on Sea Cucumbers from Sammamish. This is a follow up. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I wonder what happened to Sammamish? He was posting once or twice monthly, but nothing since the sea cucumber post - a year ago.

The triterpene glycoside Frondoside A [FrA] seems like a promising chemical. 39 PubMed studies:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?te...

Just one PCa study [CRPC]:

"We investigated efficacy, toxicity and mechanism of action of ... FrA ... using CRPC cell lines in vitro and in vivo. FrA revealed high efficacy in human prostate cancer cells, while non-malignant cells were less sensitive. Remarkably, proliferation and colony formation of cells resistant to enzalutamide and abiraterone (due to the androgen receptor splice variant AR-V7) were also significantly inhibited by FrA. The marine compound caused cell type specific cell cycle arrest and induction of caspase-dependent or -independent apoptosis. Up-regulation or induction of several pro-apoptotic proteins (Bax, Bad, PTEN), cleavage of PARP and caspase-3 and down-regulation of anti-apoptotic proteins (survivin and Bcl-2) were detected in treated cells. Global proteome analysis revealed regulation of proteins involved in formation of metastases, tumor cell invasion, and apoptosis, like keratin 81, CrkII, IL-1β and cathepsin B. Inhibition of pro-survival autophagy was observed following FrA exposure. In vivo, FrA inhibited tumor growth of PC-3 and DU145 cells with a notable reduction of lung metastasis, as well as circulating tumor cells in the peripheral blood. Increased lymphocyte counts of treated animals might indicate an immune modulating effect of FrA. In conclusion, our results suggest that FrA is a promising new drug for the treatment of mCRPC. Induction of apoptosis, inhibition of pro-survival autophagy, and immune modulatory effects are suspected modes of actions."

BigPharma wouldn't be expected to investigate unless they could get it patented - but if it could really extend the life of an expensive drug, it would be worth the investment.

There are various products available for n=1 studies - e.g.:

Sent Sammamish a message 15 hrs ago. No reply yet. When I look up some older posts, it is a bit unsettling when those Men no longer post. I know, for myself, even at just 8 mos since Dx, I need to step away from HU, once in awhile after I read some emotional posts that bring in the clouds.

I was once unfortunate enough to be given sea cucumber to eat in China. Looks like a turd, unbelievably slippery, and ranks as the most disgusting thing I have ever had in my mouth. Sea cumber or prostate cancer....? Let me think.... It's a close call 🤣

This was not about dietary use of Sea cucumber.

It was about "bioactive metabolites derived from sea cucumbers" and then tested "in vitro" in petri dishes.

Hey Spyder54!

A nice post with good info but this vegan won't be supping with sea cucumbers.

Currumpaw, note what Cesces said above about bioactive metabolites? I too am plant based. Not vegan, but believe the key is to lower acidic levels and increase Ph Alkaline levels. Very important also for the humane treatment of animals.

Hey Spyder54!

I not going to try to have it both ways. Either you are or you aren't--vegan or cheating.

Synergy is important but be careful about even supplements interacting together negating each other or causing adverse results.

I had some sled dogs a while back, and 3 of the older ones were getting a bit arthritic, unable to jump on and off their houses, etc. The vet gave me a commercial preparation that was really sliced and cured sea cucumber. Fed that to the dogs (they loved it, since it was meat), and after a few weeks, they were getting around like teenagers. It essentially cured them. Note that the sea cucumber has a lot of glucosamine chondroitin in it. It was triple the dose listed on the gluc chron you get in the drug store for people, We have been taking gluc chron for 30 years, and so far, knock on wood have had no hip or knee trouble. Stopped running 20 years ago. Running is hard on knees. Do a lot of biking, however, easy on knees.

Hey rmarkley!

Read the ingredients of "Joint Vibrance". I don't use it any longer as a supplement since becoming a vegan, however, it has the most comprehensive supplements that repair and heal joints, tendons and ligaments.

I'm not prescribing. I'm just saying take a look at it. I reluctantly threw half a tub away when I became a vegan.
