Any of my Brothers using Methtrexate. I have heard where it can be a substitute, or supplement to The 10mg of Prednisone I take with Zytiga(Abiriterone).

No. Prednisone is taken with Zytiga to replace the adrenal cortisol that Zytiga inhibits. The danger of taking too little corticosteroid to replace what is lost is a condition called a syndrome of secondary mineralocorticoid excess. This occurs because the pituitary gland reacts to the lack of cortisol by producing a hormone called ACTH. ACTH increases the production of mineralocorticoids (like aldosterone), hormones that increase blood pressure, lower potassium and cause edema in the limbs.

Where did you hear that methotrexate can be used as a substitute? I guess it shouldn't surprise me - the internet is full of idiotic things.

I had come across this article which related more to Rheumatology which made me want to ask the group. Glad you happened to see it and knew the answer.

Brother Spyder....Methotrexate and prednisone are entirely different . Although both are anti inflammatory drugs. In case of men taking Zytiga (Abi), Methotrexate can not be substituted in place of prednisone or dexamethasone.

Thanks LearnAll. I was on the J Hopkins site and came across this link to Prednisone use, as it related to Rheumatology, but it made sense to me to ask the group. Here they talk about it as a way to reduce Prednisone. Above, responding to TA, it was used as a combo for remission with Rheumatoid issues.
