I am recurrent and would like to get a PSMA scan done at John Hopkins. When I called to inquire I was routed to the oncology department and I got nowhere. Any suggestions on who to contact?

From all of my research, I don't believe that the C-11 PET scan is nearly as sensitive as the 68Ga-PSMA or the Axumin (brand name), fluciclovine (generic name), FACBC (previous clinical trial name). I had the 68Ga scan performed in Melbourne, AU and it identified PCa in my sacral nodes which I had removed via robotic surgery.

Go to clinicaltrials.gov and search for specific trials and locations.

1. What kind of psma.

2. I believe UCSF is the place to go with the most experience with psma scans. They started them and have been doing them the longest.

3. Try radiology. And use the the full name not the abbreviated term. And include PET scan when describing it.

4. Where is the doc who ordered this for you? If you are self prescribing, that may be your real problem.

I had the F-18 DCFPYL PSMA PET Scan at JH in October through a clinical trial led by the lab of Dr. Kenneth Pienta. I do not know if it is still open, but I think it was this one clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...

It is a "utility" study and requires bone and CT scans within the last 30 days for comparative purposes.

I also suggest searching through clinicaltrials.gov with key words like PSMA. There are many trials out there all over the U.S. There was also a trial at UCSF that we considered, but that was a gallium tracer. Germany and Australia are options too and much more reasonably priced if you want to take the time to travel abroad.

Spoke with them today. They are still recruiting.

I had GA-68 scan in Berlin Germany at Charité International Healthcare.

Excellent service and same day had about 2 hrs consultation with Oncology Director.

My PET/CT scans in Toronto were both clear and GA-68 showed two very small lesions in pelvic area and subsequently had radiation therapy.

PSA was rising and if not not for GA-68 scan would not have had information for follow-up.

Link to summary of a review on different PSMA scans.

We had to send all of my husband’s medical records through the medical concierge department. We just got an appointment for March 6th to see an oncologist. He will order the PSMA scan and my husband will get it done there.
