Gynomastia

Ok fellows, I know that adt causes breast enlargement in men. Gynomastia I believe it is. My question is how big will they get and will It stop? I've been on adt since last September lupron and xtandi and haven't noticed much growth if any! Don't get me wrong I'm not hoping for it!

Anecdotally, I didn't get any man boobs growth until after I was on added Xtandi for a while. Even then, it wasn't much. There are regular overweight guys who have some much bigger than my modest little chest companions. While it was happening, I did notice a little bit of tenderness in the nipple area. It stopped after a while, and the growth did not continue indefinitely, or anything like that. Personally, I've had other things I chose to focus upon.

Everyday people don't even notice. I do wear some larger, more comfortable shirts in darker colors sometime, but only because even at age 72 I'm still so vain. Ha. Ha.

Thank you for responding!

My experience is similar to Charles. It wasn't until I went on the additional anti-androgen Zytiga that I noticed a boob enhancement. My nipples were also getting sensitive so I knew something was going on there.

Personally, it doesn't bother me at all. For me, it's all part staying alive. So happy I can see my granddaughter (she probably doesn't even notice :) )

It shouldn't be a problem with Lupron, usually. It is mainly a problem with Casodex monotherapy. Casodex causes accumulation of testosterone with nowhere to go. It gets converted to estrogen, and the excess estrogen causes breast tissue growth. With Lupron, there is no excess testosterone (after the initial surge).

Read an article about putting on weight with covid isolation. 2# per month average... Well I put on my 10 kilos.... 20# around belly and butt. and 1# on each breast. Does that count???

Fine with me if it keeps me alive. Plus, I can stay home and play with ‘em all day long.

I didn’t notice much from lupron and other SOC (Xtandi, ...) until they cooked my thyroid with immunotherapy. Then I noticed it. I’m on thyroid meds now. I’m not a dr - just a hypothesis for my situation

I agree with TA, it was not untill i was on casodex that the moobs started so when i stopped taking it they went & i was about to have the operation that removes the breast tissue that men & women have.

Did you ever see meatloaf in “ Fight club” ? .his got huge ..After six years of adt and no t I’ve got them . No biggie .. just a mild inconvenience really .

I just posted a pic 10 days ago which pretty much depicts how obvious my boobs have grown after three years of tE2 (transdermal estradiol). E2 is one of the more potent gynecomastia influencing forms of ADT and IMO man boobs are a small price to pay to keep the PCa at bay. Mine stopped growing after about two years and also lost most of their sensitivity.

That's not bad at all! You are in great shape

been on casodex for 33+ months, must be about a 32 b cup by now. LOL no discomfort, but i'm 74 and couldn't give a flying crap about my pecs anymore.

I got “moobs” in my early days of hormone therapy when I was on casodex during chemo. After chemo, I switched to eligard and Zytiga and haven’t had moobs at all the past four years. I also exercise and eat healthy to keep the weight down which helps around the belly. Good luck! ✌️ dougnola

Just think Natalie Portman or Kate Hudson, lol. But honestly I’m no worse than most older guys I see on the beach. If you’re self conscious about flashing your “headlights”wearing a compression tee shirt under your shirt helps, I do that sometimes.

I have been on Lupron for 12 years. My gynecomastia did not start until I added estrogen patches for help with the hot flashes. My breasts were tender for about 2 years but that went away. I was pretty conscious of them but my wife pointed out the large number of older men with big floppy boobs. I did not notice a difference when I added Xtandi 3 years ago. The only concession I make is to wear a swim shirt when in the pool or hot tub. This is no problem since many dermatologists recommend them for older men who are prone to skin cancers from years of sun exposure. On the funny side my two youngest grandkids noticed them when changing for swimming and tease about my boobs as only little boys can do.

The boobs are such a small problem compared to the real issue of controlling prostate cancer, I never think about them. I never bought tight shirts anyhow and at age 80 I am one of the guys at the pool.

If this concern still worries you you can take preemptive action. Go to a RO and tell him you believe you may be starting to get gynecomastia because nipples are tender and may be swelling. (You need to give him something to justify insurance etc.) he can give you one or two low dose RT treatments to the breast tissues that will prevent this. I did this before starting bicalutamide: 4+ years and no moobs. Also while on Estradiol Patches this prevented breast growth.

The older I get, the less I care about my appearance, but on the other hand I still don't want to have to shop for a brazier 😁

We hear you.

By the way, a brassiere would be a lot more comfortable and way less painful than any solution involving a brazier. ;-)

After 3 years and 70 who cares, I laugh at the hot flashes and kid about the moobs, I tell a close friend I am still in the training bra stage. Life is more important and see other of men my age that has a bigger belly and bigger moobs.

I also had the problem develop after three years of erleada . It was getting quite tender, I had low dose radiation three weeks ago and the tenderness is already gone. The RO said that the growth should stop now also. What has already occurred with stay with me.
