My father has turned 70 today! He's been battling stage 4 prostate cancer with very advanced bone mets for the past 4 years.
At his age with his condition he is so thankful to be alive. Reading these forums sometimes I do get confused what is considered advanced prostate cancer or perhaps people priorities are different...
He has never moaned about any of the treatment he has received. It has been many and hopefully he will receive a few more. We are so thankful for every opportunity for him to prolong his life.
Be thankful for what you have and being alive. Many younger men then him have died of this horrible disease.
He doesn't know the defition of quality of life. He's a very tough old coal miner. His family is everything in life for him and he is everything in life for us. I can't imagine him ever giving up.
So my dad isn't complaining. He's eager to get started on his third clinical trial possibly. He is thankful for every chance he has received.
It's not easy but I wish we could spread the positive energy! Keep positive and keep fighting!!!
Sorry bit emotional at the moment.
Good luck all!

I'm always positive, but sometimes it's not real easy. Blood test today was PSA up again...Alk phos also up again. Both highest they have been in over 2 years... I guess scans will be in the near future. 4 years in and doing well. Grandson (5) visiting with us now. We have been playing follow the foot pints in our new 2" of snow. He can out run me when he wants to, but he stops at the icecream store for a snack. It doesn't melt when walking outside at 20* or less. Bless you all and a good night.
The definition I've heard for "advanced" prostate cancer is that the cancer is metastatic. In other words, it has spread to areas outside the prostate gland and its immediate environs. It is considered to be incurable but the steady advances in medical science have enabled many me to live much longer than was possible in the past.
I wish a happy birthday to your father with many happy returns.
