I think that a good way to overcome an addiction is to get yourself addicted to something cheap and harmless. RonrunHU's interest in cactus sounds like a pretty good one. Photography, especially now that it's all digital and you don't have to pay for film and processing, can be a good one. Reading books and keeping notes on them is fun and they're free at the public libraries. Some folks are into cooking, or exercising, or learning a foreign language, or playing the guitar. I suspect that more than a few of us are into reading and writing postings on this forum.

You can even combine them. In addition to growing cactus you can make photographs of them and, after a while, come to see more and more details that you had missed before.

Alan inspired me to post these pics! Photographing their magnificent flowers is also one of my hobbies.

He hasn't posted in a while, unfortunately. I hope he takes a short break from whatever his new hobby is, and says hello.

I was recently wondering how Alan was doing.

He posted elsewhere in August 2020:

"I'm still alive at age 74, more than 16 years after treatment in 2003-2004. I have no indication that I have any cancer and believe I am likely to die of something other than prostate cancer."

Good to know.

I hope Alan is doing well...would be great to hear from him!

I'm still alive at age 77, 16 years after my robotic RP. The only indication that I have PCa is/are the cute little boobs that I've acquired from applying Oestrogel (tE2), and I hope to die in my sleep from a MI.
