5 years ago at the NYC Marathon

This memory came up on my Facebook:

I had come upon this lady at about mile 23 in Central Park and the back of her Tank said "You think a marathon is tough, how about Breast Cancer"

So, I had to stop/chat and told her my saga and we are both "Still Standing" five years later💙

What an awesome memory to pop up. The smiles on all your faces puts a smile on mine. My daughter just ran the NYC Marathon. Her old IT band injury decided to join her on the run, but she still managed to finish in 4:38:05. Yay!!!!

Oh, that's so awesome, I loved how many people were out there on the course!

I had Tequila shots, and there were a bunch of Italian gents with a jug of Red wine and I took a huge swig of it and kept going

And there were a bunch of guys having beers, I stopped and asked for one and they were shocked that I would stop and have a beer. In a subsequent NYC marathon I got a White Claw from a bunch of young ladies, who taped me chugging it

I love how you enjoy life to the fullest with a cheery attitude. My husband has "walked" 2 5k's this year. GB Lambeau Field with our daughter & and her boyfriend (they drove to Wisc from Ontario) and the 5K TCS Toronto Waterfront marathon. He walked, I ran. LOL

Yay, for him getting out, that will elevate his mood and offset ADT side effects, if he's on those meds. As I've posted before "Life's too short to stay home"

Fight On

Oh, Mahalo for that comment about enjoying Life with a cheery attitude despite #stageivpca. I love to just get out and experience things and I usually will post my treks here and maybe even a Google Photos album. Attitude is 1/2 the Battle and obviously I haven't given up alcohol

Just Keepin on

I ran cross country in college but I can't imagine enduring a marathon now. I think it would wreak havoc with my atrial fibrillation prone heart but kudos to you.

With ADT induced anemia and Low Hgb, not in any marathon shape anymore

Great to hear you doing nicely -- hopefully you are on lesser meds now than 5 years ago -

8 years on Lupron, with probs last chemo this Friday. But, will do IMRT per RO as PSMA showed Prostate lit up like crazy and PCa has gone South into the perineum.

All good tho, I made it to 8 years!!

glad to hear - I see you still doing the marathons - so nice and motivating

Hi, after 8 years on ADT, I don't have the stamina to complete a marathon or even a 1/2. My last official race was the Zion 1/2 in 02/2020. Now, I just do hikes up here in Tehachapi. I'm about 40% of the Great Wall virtual hike

One other question - what medicare / supplemetal plans do you find the best for your ongoing treatments related to PCa

I have Kaiser Medicare Senior Adavantage and have Rx coverage. Just received the Kaiser statement and they paid AIC Cancer Center $135k so far this year!!!

I always finished upright despite alcohol consumption :-).

I had beers at a bunch of marathons. NYC and the San Diego Rock n Roll has the most alcohol, People in NYC have been drinking most of the day and they will gladly give one. In NYC, I stopped to get a gatorade and the Volunteer had a bag and I asked what it was and he said Tequila and I asked for a shot, then an older person asked what he was doing, and he said that I wanted a shot, so the lady said go ahead :-)

Around mile 4 in SD the neighborhood has multiple tables set up with Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and beers.

At the Honolulu marathon I had fried Spam and a beer and at Surf City around mile 17 they have bacon and beer. It's usually on Super Bowl Sunday, so people have RV's along the bike path
