Dx'd Adv PCa 08/01/2019 S4 metastatic

1.12/4 Dx’d with acute Diverticulitis LLQ via CT scan.

2. Results were: Colon: Scattered extensive diverticular disease involving the descending and Sigmoid Colon with extensive mesenteric inflammatory changes and phlegmon at junction of Colon(s).

3.Inpatient 4 days - IV’s of Zosyn (piperacillin) anti-biotics plus morphine, potassium and saline bag drips.

4.Discharged home12/07 eve and on 1 week of Amoxicillin-Augmentin 875mg.

5.If Diverticulitis abdominal/ pelvic pain infection was still active, inflamed, do you think that may have caused PSA increase? And # 6. Nov 0.536 ng/mL Dec 0.800 ng/mL

6.I do know, heard that UTI’s can cause Increased PSA’s.

7.Does anybody know about Colon/intestinal infection perforating Prostate Gland Rectal Colon arena?

Recent History

Recent Scans- 11/17th of CT pelvis, abdomen, chest & NM (nuke) total body bone scan both ID’d nothing. Not a smidgen of activity Recent PSA upward trend is it real or false?

I don't understand - your PSA is low and stable, isn't it?

Yes it is. My Med Onc was only concerned with the PSA 11/17 0.536 ng/mL jumping 12/15 to 0.800 ng/mL. Therefore he and I decided to repeat PSA 12/18 last Fri in his oncology/infusion lab(3 days apart?) Result was 0.840 ng/mL.MO Doc seemed to see or think there was a graph trending up pattern, albeit slowly.

Yes, He Doc understands I am still on (1) 250mg Abiraterone(Zytigia) pill with low fat breakfast per requirements, and also due to my cardio myopathy/rhythm issues.

My point of relating, emphasizing my acute diverticulitis attack above points 1-4 was:

when I brought up to my Colon-Rectal Surgeon consult doctor Dec 6th that I'm being treated for Adv Prostate Cancer S4w/ mets, he seems extremely interesting in me!

I see same Colon-Rectal surgeon this Wed and will ask him the same questions.

Does Diverticulitis disease inflammation infection significantly affect my colon/rectal digestive track path? Forgot to mention, I did have/had extremely hard stool movements for the first week home from hospital. Yes my diet was only Low Fiber foods only.

I've solved my constipation issues since. Never ever thought i would get excited about seeing a colon-rectal surgeon.

T_A thanks for your confidence in my low/stable PSA.

Cancer of colon could be associated with increased PSA in the absence of prostate cancer.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/924...

and PSA can be produced in the gut and many other tissues:

Thank you tango65. I do not believe I have Colon cancer, but my acute Diverticulitis attack and length of pain almost 4 days scared me way too much. 1. I will look at each of those pub.med doc's and europepmc too the next 2 days.

2. I do have F/U appointment w/ my Colon Rectal Surgeon this Wed @ 15:30. That would be an excellent time to confront his knowledge about Colon Cancer and PSA levels formed in my gut (digestive system).

That's some brilliant news you sent me Tango65.

Depotdoug(me) will research review each doc link.

Thanks so much.

I am sorry for the confusion. I never thought you had colon cancer. It was an example of how tissues from the gut can produce PSA.

Yes I am not Dx'd with colon cancer yet.But I am concerned with my Diverticulitus episode causing increased or slightly increased PSA levels in my intestinal tract. That's all I'm trying to grasp onto.

It just happens that my Colon/Rectal Surgeon who consulted me Sunday Dec 6th is also a cancer specialist too. Kind of unique that he would get attentive when I told him I was in treatment for Advanced Prostate Cancer S 4 w/mets. It's also in my pelvic lymph nodes and some abdominal lymph nodes.

I will just research read that article on

PSA levels produced in my gut and other tissues.

Hope that makes sense. I'll skip the Colon Cancer doc links.
