Stress Hormones Reawaken Dormant Cancer Cells

The study is quite detailed and will take awhile for most of us to get through and pull out useful information.

stm.sciencemag.org/content/...

There is a brief write up in STAT with interviews of study authors, basically it seems that certain stress hormones trigger neutrophil activity that releases a specific kind of lipid and in the presence of "activated neutrophils" and this lipid, cancer cells reawaken. A Beta blocker interrupted this process.

Perhaps more evidence for taking that glass of red wine with dinner. Also there's plenty of evidence that exercise lowers stress.

There are many previous studies which have indicated that beta blockers such as Atenolol slows growth of prostate cancer.

Above is a recent study from University of Michigan verifying the same conclusion.

Andrenergic system can be blocked by anti hypertensive medicines called beta blockers.

In light of these studies, do you take a beta blocking or do you rely on other means to mitigate the effects of stress? Both of these studies seem to indicate that hormones, norepinephrine in one and a general reference to an adrenogenic cascade in the other, lead to dormant cancer cells becoming active. Also the two studies differ in what they pinpoint as critical epigenetic pathways, perhaps pointing to a broader process involving both and others. I'm always looking for the small molecule plant based compounds that might help out, because stress is so hard to eliminate.

Yes. I take atenolol and losartan for high BP. Both of these have anti cancer properties.Atenolol, a beta blocker blocks adrenergic beta receptors in the brain, Thereby, reducing adrenergic flow and that reduces anxiety.

Beta Blockers are used to control physical symptoms of anxiety such as hand tremors, rapid heart beat, excessive sweating etc. Besides it slows heart rate and reduces blood pressure. So, reducing anxiety probably helps in keeping cancer cells sleeping.

Stress can be managed by yoga and meditation, change in thinking and reactions about us and the world and , simplifying life with less material things and avoid un necessary arguments and fights. Staying in Zen mode..a peaceful state of mind.

Thanks. I have not been taking any beta blockers-will look into it. Have been doing some yoga and qi-gung also a practice called Feeding Your Demons.

Are these both prescriptions? Zytiga has raised my BP I think. I also have a very stressful job.

Yes. Atenolol and losartan both are prescription meds for bringing blood pressure down in people with high blood pressure. They can be used because they lower b p as well as inhibit cancer growth...two birds with one stone.

Thanks are both necessary or do you just choose to take 2?

I have high blood pressure..it runs in family. I was on 4 meds to control b p when I was on Zytiga because Zytiga drove my b.p. very high. Now, after being free from Zytiga and I only need Atenolol and Losartan.

Hey, treedown! If you think you are getting elevated BP with Zytiga, you may wish to tweak your steroid (prednisone/dexamethasone) - how much, time of day affects. I was actually on BP meds but the combo was simply too much for me...I'm a med lightweight.

But first - go get a BP cuff and let's find out what's going on! Good luck! - Joe M.

Thanks I have been monitoring my BP since starting it and recently purchased a BT BP cuff and Kardia mobile to keep a closer eye on it. This is why I am concerned and will discuss with MO 12/23. There is a rumor he may be thinking of stopping Zytiga so I am interested on hearing his logic if this is fact true.

Do you know if valsartan has same anti cancer effect as losartan. I was switched from losartan to valsartan due to drug shortages maybe a year or so ago.

The research paper I read used Losartan....May be Valsartan may have same effect..but I am not sure.

Could this be the link between meditation, yoga, tai chi, cannabis, prayer etc and cancer reduction? I expect the SOC brigade would say this is rubbish.
