Manohar11, many much more experienced and knowledgeable people than me on here, but just thought it might help you to know that my hubby took his second dose of Prednisolone at lunchtime rather than in the evening. I was already personally well-experienced regarding the wiles of taking Prednisolone so was able to guide him. No fun having sleepless nights. Hope that helps.

The second prednisone dose does not have to be exactly 12 hours from the first. Try taking the second dose earlier. Also you might try taking melatonin to help with sleep. Be careful, not all melatonin is the same. Some brands gave me the jitters. If one brand doesn't work try another.

Try giving it some time for body to adjust to....Magnus had good suggestions also i was on 2 a day and after 1 year they put me on 1 a day

When I was on chemotherapy, I took 10mg once a day in the morning. That's when your body naturally produces them anyway so it's a good time to do it plus it didn't keep me awake that way.

I take 2 a day for the past 3 years. Your body adapts accordingly so give it time.

Natural cortisol levels peak after waking and decline throughout the day. If he takes 1.5 pills (7.5 mg) at breakfast, and the remaining half a pill (2.5 mg) at lunch, he can come close to the natural pattern.

Maybe try 20-40 mgs of melatonin..I’m also prescribed 4.5 mg naltrexone prior to bed . Cardio exercise if able promotes sleep also . This is a common issue with us. Although I’m not on prednisone ,I’ve heard it jacks one up .

Be aware if 5mg TWICE a day is required. I also took that when I started Zytiga, but found out that only 5mg once a day is required if you have it as initial treatment being castrate sensitive. So, if you a castrate/hormone sensitive, only 5mg is required.

Moreover, when I did take the two 5mg pills, it said morning and noon... I was told that this was due to the study which was made so... These were just my two inputs on this :-)

I take first one at Breakfast second with Diner.. Try to stay active through out the day it helps to sleep at night. I have been doing this regiment for three years and sleep well. Leo

My husband’s oncologist told him to take the second prednisone around 4 pm, so it wouldn’t affect his sleep as much.

Hi There,

I went through this as well. you are getting good advice to take the second dosage earlier in the day. Also be aware that this hormone has other side effect. Easy Bruising and an thinning of the skin can happen.

Good luck, and keep on keeping on,

Bees

I do not believe that Prednisone is the culprit. During the six month chemo hormone therapy trial I took in 2004, I took 20 mg in am and 10 mg in pm for s total of 30 mg of Prednisone a day for 180 days. Lack of sleep was not a problem. I did gain 80 pounds though.

Look toward another issue. maybe anxiety.

My husband takes all his prednisone in the morning (5mg) with his breakfast then 2 hours later takes his Zytiga monsters (big tablets!!) then an hour later he can eat. He also takes an electrolyte most days to compensate for the effect of prednisone. He tried lots of different schedules, but this works best for him. Definitely ask the doctor if he can take the whole dose of prednisone in the morning? My husband has done this for over a year now and his PSA is zero, mets are normalising... 😄

Talk to his Onocologist. I started with the same dose and my Dr. Changed to one 5mg in the morning and is good for me.

When I was talking 5mg twice a day, I took 1 after breakfast and the other 5mg after dinner. (I later discovered my MO was over prescribing what I was supposed to be taking. I switched to 5mg once a day and got a new MO...)

my husband is on Zytiga and was told to take the first prednisalone in the morning and the 2nd at lunchtime and if he forgot to take it at lunchtime no later than 4 as it would keep him awake at night.
