Viagra, anyone?

I am 60, with Stage IV PCa, which was diagnosed in 2004. I have been on one form of ADT or another since then. Currently I am on Zytiga. My libido is wrecked, and has been for some years. I cannot achieve an erection unaided. However, I miss the closeness that sex with my wife brings. While Viagra, which I have just been prescribed, would help with the mechanics, it cannot help with the libido. Has anyone else here faced this problem? Any hints or tips?

Viagra won't give you an erection without an assist from libido. Try trimix injections instead. It works independent of libido.

No thanks, TA. The idea of administering injections so as to have sex without a libido sounds as romantic as roadkill.

I agree . Well put . I dislike needles ..

Brent, I encourage you to give TriMix a go. You might think that you will just be going through the motions, but perhaps after using it once successfully, from then on recollection would result in libido. As for being romantic, part of the instructions my wife and I received for using TriMix was for the partner to hold the penis while the user prepares the site and then performs the injection. In my judgment, all it takes is a willing partner to incorporate that into a romantic start. I think you will find yourselves hurrying to put the TriMix bottle in the freezer and prepare the needle for disposal in order to get back to mutual stimulation etc.

Presumably you are (or will be) pursuing this under the care of a physician to write a prescription, be it for Viagra or TriMix. They presumably also would provide advice regarding "penile rehabilitation" using a VED, which might also be helpful. A search of this site should turn up additional information for that.

I hope it will go well!

More lingering hugs and cuddles and casual kisses. Affection and helpfulness. Kindness and loving small talk. Some humor every now and then may help, too. Such things can go a lot farther in an established, mature relationship than a hot-burning libido from younger decades. ... At least in my experience, with both of us now into our 70s, after my original diagnosis at age 65.

(A while back my wife was joking around with me with a twinkle in her eye and referred to me as her "stud muffin". I deadpanned in reply, "Just call me 'muffin' now, Dear.", and we both burst out laughing.)

Thanks for the advice, ctarleton, though we do these things already. I, by the way, was diagnosed at 44. That felt far too young to be saying goodbye to my libido. . . .

To the dud muffin,

While your kissing your wife just think of the woman you really want to lay.... works all the time (but remember don't call out name(s)).....

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

44 ? That pisses me off .Ill never complain about being early to the party at 53 . I m sure you weren’t too happy about it either ? You must be one tuff dude to endure Brent .. libido is in the psyche and adt kills it . I have nigheood but not a peep during daylight hours . And I chopped my balls off too . I link my night wood to high thc oil .. wife is in menopause with me and crazily she feels unattractive ,my body is shot . I still keep hope that she can come back to me .. I miss the closeness and holding and sharing and pleading my parter . We did it once 3 years ago. Once I got the foley put after over a year . I felt like king of the world again after two years of tubes . She orgasmed I could not , she later told me that she felt big . She’s tiny but I shrank and it was an ego killer for me . There is so much twisted psychology for us and our partners . Keep intimacy even if it’s not sexual keep the warm feeling going . Personally that’s more important than sex . I remember that adt has helped to keep me here five more years so far . That’s one benefit ,we know the down falls .. take care .

Whimpy, you always make me laugh with your comments. Your sense of humor is a great addition to the “stud” turned to “dud” club!💪

Thanks Boa! One laugh , I’ve done my job . Dude! We laugh , we cry , after awhile it’s all the same . I went through hating myself and deeming myself unworthy of taking up this worlds precious resources. APC and treatments are drudgery at best . At worst they are pure hell . I laugh at the ironies as I transfer genders hormonally . MY Adam’s Apple and deep singing voice are my last macho features left. Oh yah and I’m Still

Incredibly defensive of wife , family puppy and home . I ain’t going down without a fight . Take it easy Boacan . Enjoy the weekend!

There is a cream called Vitaros which I think contains the same stuff as the injection. It is approved in Canada and some Euopean countries. It's private prescription only in the UK. The U.K. NHS won't pay for it because of cost and it's likely popularity if adopted. I don't know how effective it is.
