It was one week F/U post RF catheter cardiac ablation wIth my Primary Care Physician.
Yes, I gad 3 cardiac cath incisions, 2 in my L/R groin. Left groin incision needed stitches last Friday. Couldn’t get the bleeding stopped last Thursday and Friday. Suture out yesterday, oh what a feeling!!!!
Question: I asked my Family Doctor was
1. One I’ve been on XARELTO 20mg since Feb 14th Valentines days Cardioversion failed attempt. I do not like being on a “Blood Thinner” for My dreaded AFIB. Oh but I’m in NSR since Ablation heart procedure last Wed. Yes, good news, great news!
I ask my PCP doctor if or when I could stop taking my XARELTO ( with concurrence of my EP, of course) ?
He said did you know that Cancer, my Advanced Prostate Cancer Stage 4 Metastatic cells can cause “Blood Clots”. I said I had no idea.
Cancer Cells mine causing or could cause Blood 🩸 Clots.
I had no idea. Where should I go for research everybody??

D-dimer can show that there is an active clot. If you presented at the ER with chest pain, they would do a D-dimer test. If ~zero, a clot would be ruled out.
It can be elevated for other reasons, but in our demographic it's a useful test.
Thxs Patrick. I've got some coagulation blood test lab learning to accomplish today, Monday. D-Dimmer blood labs new to me?
Facts:
1. I've been on Xarelto 20mg since Feb 14th. Reluctantly, but now, no more regrets that I am. I know the reasons. But.
2. immediately before my May6th RF cath ablation my EP RN;s took blood labs for a) Prothrombin time w/INR b) BMP/w calcium c) CBC w/o diff and all the essential WBC, RBC, Hgb and Na2, K, plus a whole slew of ActClotTm Plus POC.
Like Tall_Allen told me yesterday, Tumors are like wounds that don't heal, releasing clotting factors into the bloodstream.
Msg returned from my Oncologist replied that ... “Would leave decisions for cardiac issues and anticoagulation to your cardiologist”. " Ok. I am under active established patient care with my EP and several Cardiologists.
Should I ask, politely insist about 'D-dimmer and those specific coagulation clotting factor blood labs?
I'd be fine with my EP and Cardio Doc's monitoring my blood clotting labs.
Or I can/willing to order them from Request-A Test labs, do them at LabCorp or Quest. Options?
Already sent a precise secure e-msg to my Med Onc at IU Simon Cancer Center. They seem to respond to me like a magnet, usually. XARELTO 20mg guy now in NSR.
Just checked visually quickly my Med ONC response.
... “Would leave decisions for cardiac issues and anticoagulation to your cardiologist”. That’s assuring.
My Med ONC is speaking truthfully, I think. Anticoagulants treatment, monitoring, staging fighting is Cardiologist/EP specialised specialist arena. At this point Tall_Allen I’m not doing anything as far as advanced chemo blood immunodeficiency treatments. Yet.
Research on clotting and Cancer TBD. Right now my mind is fried from searching info links. Doug
Not sure why you mention "advanced chemo blood immunodeficiency treatments." Blood clots aren't the result of immunodeficiency. They result from tissue damage. Tumors are like wounds that don't heal, releasing clotting factors into the bloodstream.
I thought absolutely wrong. I’d best do my research and let my mind focus on My Cath ablation recovery healing. I’ve probably got a lot of ablated RF burned spots inside my left atria and PV areas inside my heart to heal.
Doug has a lot to assimilate about cancer tumour physiology and bio-chemistry.
21 days till my CT Abdominal, Pelvis, chest and NM total body bone scan.
Let’s see where my tumors are not active and where they are.
1st PSMA-11 PET Scan was 9.5 months ago.
“ oh what a feeling”! You are amazingly level headed...we already know that adt treatments shrink muscle and veins. Makes sense that clots can come. Many of will go from heart issues before APC gets us.. Either way DD we all the plank in hope for more days in the sun. You ate on tuff hombre to endure what you have. I had heart problems prior APC . I’m glad you pulled through this latest ordeal . My brother Mike passed away last year at 73. One year after retiring from the uspo.He had a heart attack and they put in two stints and put him on Brilinta . 3 months later he walked into ERin pain. They said “ you’re not going anywhere .“ He left main was99% blocked and needed immediate surgery. But? Here was the glitch. They couldn’t do surgery for five days until the brilinta wore off. ??? He didn’t make it. The next day his blood pressure dropped and didn’t return . My 93 okd mom says that my niece has recieved a huge settlement and is set for life. They say he was given the wrong drug???? Good job getting thru ablation. 🙏
