Wear Face Masks.

You will find many leaders who have told us masks don’t work not for the public, this is and was wrong; the message was influenced by the mask supply to prevent hoarding. If done to keep up the supply for the medical people understandable.

Any type of bandana, masking etc, that prevents a person who has the virus that coughs spits or? Many Droplets go into the mask, I can’t answer exactly how much it works experts needed to study this but common sense is coughing into a masking system is better then not.

Bandanas, shields that prevent droplets work, droplets come from the mouth and nose anything that addresses this is a win.

Anything that keeps you from touching these areas help. Certainly public education about how to best wear them, how to change them, same thing don’t touch your mouth.

I suggest if on March 11th when it was called a pandemic we started to make it law everyone in public had to wear a mask this would have affected numbers.



The heath officials tell us not to touch our faces it appears this is the number 1 way that the virus is spread touching droplets and then transmitting the contamination to your mouth and nose, air borne out in the general public does not seem to be as much a factor nor as much through the eyes.

Obviously masks are the best way, first we must supply the health workers they must be totally supplied then every pharmacy, grocery person must be supplied plus essential people.

Again common sense to me if no one transferred droplets to their face would this eliminate the majority of the disease. If touching the mouth nose is ended what happens to the curve.

I started out thinking we should start with the clear plastic face shields this would be a great reminder that you shouldn’t touch your face great thing these can be reusable so have more practical value.

The issue though is you could still reach up and touch your mouth, my thought then was to attach a piece that hangs down in front to make it even tougher to touch yourself. Something like the goalie/catcher masks attachment, even a cloth that is attached with Velcro or something figured out by the handier people.

From there I thought why not double mask put a actual nose/mouth mask on, first don’t touch because of the shield, then backed by a backup. Right now these would work great but importantly as the curve flattens then people can get back to work with more confidence.

As this curve flattens if I went to the library, shopping centre and elsewhere and everyone was covering by wearing these masks it would increase my confidence and everyone else. We must get back to work the recovery will go through phases but double masking by law should be the first phase.

First covid 19 can be spread by people who don’t know they have it, then the valuable part of masks is they contain more droplets from people who don’t know they have it, these unknowingly carriers would spread less behind any type of mask rather then not wearing one.

If you spread the virus to yourself you are picking up droplets, the virus and getting into your nose, mouth and possibly eyes. Common sense is if you have a mouth/nose mask you lessen the chance the virus enters. The face shield helps against splatter.

Everyone has to be taught how to properly fit it, remove it keep it clean but marketing is cheap compared to spread.

Yes touching your face with or without a mask is not good but education about this is important.

I believe we have to get back to work after the virus spread lessens a strong curve obtained. I strongly feel that by starting with the simple program of doubling masking and maybe goggles, the continuation of distancing, sanitation can allow us to get back to work earlier.

Masking works that is why Doctors and Nurses use them on the front line facing contagious people if it works with contagion it will work at the store, out doing business, etc.

While n95 masks are in short supply you could make a bandana any form of mask and this is better then nothing, anything to prevent transmission of droplets to your mouth or from.

The sooner countries get back to the new normal the government and economy will save trillions, making it law everyone out must wear a mask will save money, billions spent on converting companies to manufacture masks will save trillions in bailouts and lost income.

I edited this post to remove political comments. The message about the importance of wearing masks is appropriate for discussion. But, I don't want to risk this thread becoming right v. left festival laden with stress and inciting division and bad feelings.

Thanks Darryl it was about the health organization’s and their message masks didn’t work, many still believe it so to understand why is good. No political comment intended.

For me I would like to see the question get out and in the last couple of days I see it is getting discussed nationally. I think the guys on the site would be interested even though not just about PC best practices, some have weaker immune systems,

Darryl, Politics are a shame . I will stop talking politics here completely . Don’t discuss politics or religion at the dinner table or on HU either. No one with cancer needs to fight with others with cancer . Let us all respect each other and choose the higher path . We have more in common than not . 😎✌️

why aren’t eye protective goggles suggested? While it might make the world seem like a wierd science fiction move, like Chris Marker's La Jetee , I think eye goggles might remind us not to touch our faces and "might" prevent viral transit (I don't have a clue whether touching our eyes might give the virus a useful pathway).

You are absolutely spot on with the goggles thought . The need and value of the n95 quality face mask is obvious but you are right about walking through a cloud of suspended droplets that could get into your eyes. Doctors wear a mask and protective shield for just that reason. Of course shields are out of reach for most civilians and googles would be great too ...but in the absence of those , if you wear glasses or wearing wrap around sunglasses would offer a measure of protection too. You can also get motorcycle or welding googles that fit right over your glasses ... even a full face motorcycle helmet with a face mask would offer a lot f protection. And yes touching your eyes would allow the virus in if your hand was contaminated. Even touching just your face is strongly advised to avoid. Remember washing your face and hands is important plus hand sanitizer works on your facial skin too ....Just don’t get it in your eyes.

Worrying about fashion , style or how you look ..

Wearing protective gear ....is shortsighted and foolish when your life or the life of your loved ones may be at stake.

For many many years when we were married , I tried talking my ex-wife into wearing a mask....Then It finally dawned on me that she was actually wearing one...........
