After initial high PSA (of 20) in 2019, I was referred to a urologist by my PCP, and biopsied at Gleason 3+4=7 with scans revealing 2-3 probable bony mets in the spine. Urologist then referred me to his associated interdisciplinary oncology team. With ADT in the cards, I have yet to start (or even decide upon) a treatment protocol, having made only a decision to defer any local treatment for now.
While I am not necessarily unhappy w/ my current docs, I simply inherited them by default. My default MO is rather young and deals primarily with cancers other than PC, and seems committed to mainstream SOC without any apparent intellectual curiosity as regards diet, supplements, high-T, etc.
It has occurred to me that it might make sense to seek out an MO who 1) specializes in PC, and/or 2) has been around for awhile, and has seen and done a bit more than a younger doc, and/or 3) is willing to be flexible with the established SOC, or at least show some interest or curiosity in what lies beyond it. (While I would love to find someone open to BAT, it would at least be nice to DISCUSS options and theories, even if the MO rejects them in practice!)
I have a short list of suggestions for MOs doing PC in Boston. Does anyone have any suggestions for recommended MOs doing PC in New Hampshire, whether in Hanover (Dartmouth) or in the Concord/Seacoast area? How about Portland, ME, or?

Don’t necessarily simply go by the older Dr’s! I went for second opinions and ended up in the office next door to my Url’s!! My guy actually left that practice and I ended up with the second. Acclaimed as top in RI but I dropped him like a hot potato! I believe he was on direct deposit from Big Pharm!!
I recognized he was joined at the hip not only to the SoC but to antiquated SoC at that!! Mostly by learning everything I could here!! So you need to find a balance in age plus I believe I knew as much as a couple others that I fired as well!!! Be as informed as possible and best of luck in which ever options you chose!!!
I live in Maine and found "best" docs in Boston in terms of prostate oncology. Dana Farber (Pomerantz, Sweeney, Taplin), Tufts (Matthew). Feel free to message me if you need more info or want to chat. Good luck.
I found a guy who specializes in genitourologic cancers through my RO. Both in academia and research. They advice given by two ROs, one in community s d the other in academia, when asked a simply question, “Doc if you were in my shoes, newly Dx’d with metastatic prostate cancer, what would you do?”
You may have to travel. But, IMO, find the person who does not treat any other cancers....... the field is too specialized for someone to be at the top of their game in general oncology.
Thanks, that's what I've been thinking. The more I read, the more I realize the generalist I've seen a couple times probably isn't reading ANY of this stuff... seems more interested in just doing "what we do" as a matter of routine, without any input from me, or even putting me in the loop as to why.
Thanks... do you know, would Dr. Weckstein be the oncologist best-suited to discuss prostate cancer at his group New Hampshire Oncology-Hematology, or is he more of a generalist?
