A brief story of using Trintellix (Brintellix) antidepressant

Hello brothers in arms.

I've been fighting this disease for about 18 months now.

Since my diagnosis my life changed a lot as expected.

I'm not sleeping as I used to, my life does not have any colors, and find it hard to concentrate.

My GP thought I might be going thru depression so he prescribed me with 15mg Trintellix which is an SSRI antidepressant.

As usual with SSRIs I started gradually .Even before I got the the max dose, I began to experience lots of difficulties urinating.

I started experiencing urgency, felt I couldn't void completely, and run to the toilet many times at night.

At that moment I didnt think it might be related to Trintellix but I started to check on it.

It turns out Trintellix ,as many other antidepressants,is metabolized by enzyme CYP2D6. I'm currently taking Abiraterone which is a strong inhibitor of CYP2D6.

The result is that I suffered hard from Trintellix (rare...)side effects.

Obviously I had to stop Trintellix.

So, if you plan to take an SSRI antidepressant together with Abiraterone, be aware of the potential interaction between the drugs.

Peace

I take Wellbutrin every morning and a little lorazepam at night to help me sleep. All things considered it works pretty well for me. If you want to go that route may want to consider seeing a psychiatrist for the proper diagnosis and meds. It saved me from the spiral I was in.

Thank you Hex

What dose of Wellbutrin are you taking?

I read some people may experience irritability with Wellbutrin

I started with 150 mg for 2 weeks then went to 300 mg. For sleeping I generally fall asleep on my own but wake up after a couple hours. I then take 2 .5 lorazepam that lets me sleep for about 4 or 5 hours. If necessary I take an additional .5 around 5 am that gives me another 2 or 3 hours. I initially started out taking mirtazapine for anxiety but after several months it was causing horrible restless leg at night so that was scrapped. Regarding irritability it does happen on a very rare occasion. Sometimes I get a little short with my wife but we both realize it’s the meds

NOT ALL SSRI antidepressants are metabolized thru CYP2D6 pathway.

The ones which are not metabolized thru CYP2D6 are (1) Sertraline (Zoloft), (2) Citalopram (celexa) and Escitalopram (Lexapro)

My husband has battled quite a bit with depression since being diagnosed and having a rocky road since. He notices a real benefit and we've both seen a difference in how he copes by taking 50mg of Zoloft daily. He does not seem to have experienced any side effects that could be attributed to Zoloft.
