Catherter?

Had my surgery Thursday, it wasn't a full Orchiectomy, they just cut the lines and left the Testicles, I seem to have recovered from that procedure, healed well with minimal discomfort to Testicles.

One problem after surgery is that I couldn't pee and they had to put a catheter in, they removed it the following day and bladder started working (also did ultrasound), I had no blood or discomfort with catheter actually going in but it's almost a week and I still have some discomfort in right upper groin, it was where I felt the most pain when I first couldn't pee after the surgery, They gave me some tablets (Tamsulosin, Flomax) which has helped the flow improve, should the discomfort have settled by now, I remember my bladder was pretty full as pee went everywhere once the got the catheter in.

Any ideas of timescales on recovering from these things?

Without the testosterone the prostate should shrink and relieve your urinary problems.

I had my 3 month ADT injection 3 weeks ago before surgery.

It wasn't a full Orchiectomy,

Yes. I've had plenty dozens, well not counting but a lot of foley catheters in my life since PCa Dx 2005. I've got a neurogenic bladder in addition to now advanced prostate cancer. I'm been self-cathethering since July 2005. Zetabow, I'm had pain in my groin areas from full bladder, yeh I have urinary retention so I can wait for 3-5 hrs to pee. But that's not good. My Neurogenic bladder is also enlarged so much more complicated. If your Urologist has ruled out UTI's, bladder enlargement, and prostate enlargement shouldn't he Dr do an CT Scan of Pelvis/

Good luck and hope pain subsides soon. At least your not self-cathetering 6-8 x daily.

Doesn't the testosterone produced by your testicles still get into your blood?

I would guess not, they plan to stop ADT in Jan and already stopped the Casodex

Testosterone penetrates through the skin and travels readily through the bloodstream - I don't understand how disconnecting the lines that carry semen to the prostate helps. That's what they do when men have a vasectomy - it doesn't deplete their testosterone.

Maybe Urologist told me wrong and I will still need ADT. I do remember the Oncologist saying it will help with the brutal hot flushes and maybe even a chance of reduction in the pain, that was enough to convince me because I'm really struggling at the moment.

He just told me it the latest research said this procedure will help me in my advanced condition, I trust him. Only time will tell.

Everyone is off track it wasn't what I asked

I had a vasectomy in 1978 at age 28 and testosterone FLOWED very well, thank you. Had my FULL BILATERAL ORCHIECTOMY in 2015 to begin treatment for my Gleason 10. No catheter in either instance or urinary issues. Just find the OP's problems a bit upsetting since the procedures are fairly straight forward, easy-peasy, unless some individualized underlying issues could be present. Hope the problems subside quickly and best of luck.

It sounds like you had A vasectomy not an orchiectomy. You can't make anyone preganant. You are also not trating your prostate cancer. This is confusing: if vasectomy was not your intent this seems like a medical error.

The procedure was "Subcapsular Orchiectomy" just translated into English

Thanks, that clarifies it. They remove the glandular tissue enveloping the testicle that produces testosterone, and leave the core (which is inert).

What is the benefit of that?

Apart from having your balls washed by a VERY cute 25 year old nurse lol I was very lucky, a couple of them were total huge 60 year old battle nurses, guess I won the Lotto there.

Oncologist feels this option makes it longer lasting and more effective for my current cancer journey, better for me than ADT hormone treatment. I'm having brutal hot flashes 15 times a day where sometimes I have to change all my clothes as I'm soaked through with sweat. I'm very aggressive and so far gone that I have zero chance of any ADT holidays. He also said a small chance in the reduction of pain, the pain is so bad I probably wont notice it anyway.

Good ole dr. google:

Subcapsular Orchiectomy is the removal of the tissue from the lining of the testicles where testosterone is made.
