Please describe side effects you had or have from Eligard. Anyone stop using this drug and changes after discontinuation?

All the usual side effects of being castrated: no libido, hot flashes, loss of bone and muscle mass, mild anemia. Did I miss any?

No different from Lupron. I find the Eligard shots are a bit more painful at the beginning, but the pain goes away very fast compared to Lupron.

After my first Lupron shot it felt like I had been kicked in the @$$ for several days. Then I read here that if you stand on the other leg during the injection, and ask them to inject it slowly, it won't hurt as much. My last two have been much better.

Unfortunately, I never learned that. I only had two shots before going to Eligard.

Surprisingly, gregg57, I have never got much pain from Eligard thus far.

I have taken 4 injections so far. Three 6 monthly shots and one 3 monthly shot.

Very easily done. Almost no pain at all.

This paper describes them all and what you can do against them:

Oh yeah, there's also a problem with cognition. Forgot about that one.

Ok. My laugh of the day.

I preferred Eligard over Lupron

The main issue I have is the hot flashes and sweats, which were severe enough that some people thought I was having a heart attack. 75-mg per day of venlafaxine took care of the majority of these issues. The remaining issue is that of body fat, especially around the mid-section. I do the best I can with diet and exercise.

At least you’re not short ..

Hi Shortimer...I’ve been all shot up with Eligard for a few years now...long enough to change my name from Charlie to Charlene...don’t worry about the side effects..lol

The list of my negitive side effects was written by Stephen King!!

I don’t post them to scare people but more so to inform that SE’s can be leaps and bounds more than the andropause symptoms (like low libido and hot flashes) warned by my Uroligist & Oncologist!

Also, no body has been able to tell me what caused what!! Is it the drug, Eligard? Is it the EXRT? Is it the effect of my body’s adapting to not having any T? Is some of it atrophy?

Here goes nothing!!!;

* Hot Flashes

* No lebido

*Shrinkage (yes.... that!!)

* Fatigue

* Lethargic

* Mood swings (crying, rage, anxious, depressed)

* Executive / cognitive decline (severe)

* Severe joint pain (everywhere!!!!)

* Obesity

* Memory loss

* Man boobs (very painfull, man boobs)

* Clumsy

* Etc, I’m sure I forgot some!!!

I want to be clear, if you are just starting Eligard, don’t “not” do it because of my bad experience with ADT. I belive that I am a freak when it comes to negitive SE’s. I do find some men out there with similar SE’s but it seams rare!!!

I received my last 3month injection on Nov 9th 2018 and had bloodwork in June of 2019. T was “still” @ 18 and PSA still not detectable <.01!!. Side effects then and still are unrelenting!! I have bloodwork scheduled for Nov so we’ll see!!!!
