Prednisone and Glaucoma

A recent edition of Gleams, the glaucoma research newsletter, reports that Prednisone can affect eye pressures, immediately and seriously. No data on how big a dose is responsible for the effect. I am on 5 mg, to accompany 1000 mg Zytiga, started 1 month ago. Should see opthalmologist again soon, who has followed my glaucoma for years, but wonder if anyone has had this experience and give ideas for coping??

The amount of prednisone you are taking is only to replace the cortisol that Zytiga removes - it should not carry any side effects.

Just visited my ophthalmologist yesterday for the 6 months checkup due to Glaucoma.

I told him I'm on 5mg Prednisone and he dismissed it as been a low dose with no effects.

I'm taking 5mg Prednisone for one year already with no effect on the eye pressure

Goodrx says Prednisone comes in doses of 1 to 50mg.

It seems like most folks here are getting either 5mg or 10mg.

It would seem very important to help your doc by being very studious in reporting side effects, otherwise it will be too easy for the doc to just prescribe and forget.

Docs seem to really really suck at disclosing and paying attention to side effects. If you don't self educate and pay attention to your interests, the health care system won't do such a good job on your behalf.

Everytime I'm given a new medication by one of my numerous docs, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners AND DENTISTS, the first thing I do is go home and search for side effects online (before ordering!). The second thing I do is search for interactions with all my other meds. Then, maybe, I order the drug...or call the provider.
