Now for something a little different

Hi everyone, I’m 73 years old and was diagnosed a little over two years ago with prostate cancer. My Gleason score was nine and my PSA was around 114. Many people on this blog talk about various pills and treatments and I think they all have a place. But I really believe in the power of the mind and the power of prayer. I’m also a pretty avid cyclist that likes to get out and push the pedals. Unfortunately the weather in Maine this year hasn’t cooperated and I’ve only been able to ride 375 miles outdoors. Another exercise I am doing (for the last 66 days) which I highly recommend comes from Taiwan and it’s called Pingshuai. It addresses the physical, mental and spiritual side of our lives. Before you say it’s that’s never gonna work, give it a try and see what you think. Here’s the link you need.youtu.be/YARCKKFAIzk I have been doing it every day for the last 66 days and have found it really does help both physically and mentally. I totally recommend this very simple non-strenuous exercise. I wish everyone who reads this to give it a try. To all my brothers in arms, stay strong, keep believing, and we will all be winners against this invisible foe.

Prayer and meditation can be great for mental health, depending on the person. Unfortunately, positive vibes, prayers, and meditation do not lower PSA or prevent the spread of cancer.

Yes, but maybe they extend the quality of your life. I prefer to be positive👍🏻

Hi Urunstoppable

(Love the name) are you doing any conventional treatments along with the mindfulness?

The reason I ask, is my husbands dad died from pc and as I read the side effects of treatment, i question the path all together. 😊 thanks for any insight.

I chose not to do chemo or radiation. I had a good friend go that route for another type of cancer and I am convinced it killed her. All I have done so far is one injection of Lupron that knocked all the life out of me. And more recently Casodex which is for me much easier to take. I am got in for a PSA test on Tuesday. I really don’t dwell on my cancer I prefer to live life to the fullest. That is my choice and the path I have taken. The rest is in God’s hands.

I think we need to respect everyone's right to choose whatever treatment (or none) that they want even if we disagree or have chosen a different way.

I just hope that everyone is making a fully informed decision and has realistic expectations for whatever path they choose.

When it comes to Cancer treatment and specifically to Prostate Cancer there are treatment choices with no treatment being one. Surgery vs Radiation is like a Sophie's Choice. Often once chosen the other is not an option. But it is the man's choice and once made it is the right choice

Great stuff, addressing the physical and mental side is the other two fronts along with the treatment side ...why not use all three?...Going paddle boarding this morning...lift on a regular basis...stretch stretch....with Alexa playing meditation music...jog ....eat good and cheat....I will take a look at this...I built a pickle ball court in my back yard...stay on the move!

I had my church praying for me and I think it helped me keep my spirits up, but 72 radiations and 6 1/2 years of chemotherapy over eleven years and my cancer is now gone!

Jim, that is wonderful news. Thank you for sharing and praise the Lord.

I respect your choice of dealing with you cancer. However, have you had a recent blood test to measure your PSA? I think any mental exercise, mantra or meditation is always good for everyone, However, it’s not enough for cancer patients.
