Been on Lupron/Zytiga/Prednisone for almost a year. Had 35 radiation treatments. Gleason 7. Recurrence with metastatic to femur and 10-12 lymph nodes. My last PSA 3 months ago is less than 0.015. My test results today are still less than 0.015. All my lab work has good numbers. Dr says I’m responding to treatment.

One discussion did come up about “vacation” from meds. My doctor first mentioned me going on a vacation after two years. When I brought it up today she said vacations are not standard treatment. My concern is this; going on vacation will give my cancer freedom to spread, and get worse. The only other option seems to be to stay on meds “indefinitely”. She said vacations are “usually” for people that can’t take it anymore (side affects). My side affects are very minimal. So I’m at a dilemma. My vacation, if I chose, won’t be for another year. Any thoughts or resources?

Hello,

I would stay on the ADT train.

So why would you want a vacation?

Good question. It does puzzle me that my oncologist (UCSF) mentioned 3 months ago about putting me on vacation, then yesterday when I mentioned it she told me it’s not standard treatment. So I’m getting a mixed message. My non-medical common sense tells me two things; 1-that they might have gotten it all (my radiation oncologist said there’s a 25% chance) and that would determine if they did, and, 2-a vacation would allow it to spread (if they didn’t get it all).

Doubtful that a cure is possible after you've had a met in your femur.

The met in my femur was also zapped. Worst thing I can do is give up all hope and just surrender til the end.

I know so many people who are living with HIV. They have given up hope for a cure, but they are living with the hope that it is a disease they can live their entire full lives with. Once it has metastasized to your femur (zapped or not), it is systemic and therefore incurable as far as we know with present technology. That doesn't mean that you can't live with the disease your entire life and die of something else. I can guarantee you will die of something someday.
