Ish on April 29, 2019 . This was taken with GP for unrelated cancer care. Today , AST and ALT were both in the 40s . MO said to stop zytiga (1000 mg) and prednisone for one week . After one week , go back to zytiga of 1000 mg and 5 mg of prednisone.
From all I have read , prednisone needs to be tapered of .
What would be best? Listen to MO and not worry about tapering off zytiga???
MO is hard to get a hold off . I told the MO that I read it was dangerous to stop taking prednisone cold turkey . His response was I am taking a low dosage (5 mg) right now and it was only stopping for one week I should be okay.
With that conversation do you think it would be fine to stop prednisone for one week ?
At difference of other people in this group, I don't have any clinical experience with patients taking zytiga and prednisone for more than 2 months and stopping both without tapering the prednisone. These 2 links have some information about discontinuing exogenous steroids and about discontinuing zytiga and prednisone.
I was advised to taper the prednisone. One tablet every other day for a week. Then one half tablet every other day for a couple weeks... or something like that
MO is being very conservative. ALT & AST in the 40's is not that big a deal. 41 & 40 are the high end of normal. You MUST discontinue if your numbers are 5 time greater than normal. I went to the 190's before stopping. Once my #'s returned to normal I went on 1/2 dose of Zytiga & then 3/4. I've stayed there for months.
