Swollen legs- Lymphatic massage

My cancer has spread to the lymph nodes in the groin area. As such I have experienced swelling in the lower legs, L leg especially. I put up with it for several months and then decided to try the Lymphatic Massage(LM). Normally this massage is a light massage, as the lymph fluid is superficial and is not contained in any vessel. It is also stroked towards the heart. My first lymphatic massage was of this nature and did nothing for the swelling. My next LM was of a deeper nature and I saw a decided improvement in the swelling. The next LM showed an even more benefit for the swelling. It is conducted from the foot up the full leg, top and bottom side, up to the groin area and over the top into the abdominal cavity. You are sweeping the lymph fluid past the cancerous nodes and then up to the thoracic duct and back into the circulatory system. My legs now look almost normal. If you are using a deeper stroke for the leg, ease up when you get over the nodes.

As a result of lymph node dissection during her mastectomy, my wife wears a compression glove and sleeve in addition to having monthly lymphedema massages. Might be worthwhile to discuss compression garments with your lymphedema specialist.
