My oncologist mentioned this drug-has anyone had experience of it and if so was it effective?

I would take it. Chris Parker, one of the best prostate cancer experts in the UK, writes:

„We use dexamethasone 0.5mg daily for treating CRPC. Men who respond well can stay on it for years. Toxicity relatively modest IMO“

Here is a study that reports a decrease of the PSA value in 47% of the patients treated with Dexamethasone:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Whether this translates to an extended overall survival is unknown. But patients prefer a lower PSA value.

Sound hopeful.. Thanks

You became resistant to Enzalutamide but have not been offered Abitaterone+Dexamethasone - just the Dex?

Many men here will be familiar with the steroid drug, but not as monotherapy.

Here are some links that might be useful.

Given alone, it can slow down the cancer sometimes. But watch PSA closely, it usually does not last very long.

Helped me immensely during chemo. After first cycle was added to each infusion.

I also had it with chemo. Made me feel like superman for a few days. Great stuff!

When my psa went up to 19 in August 2016 a daily dose of 500micrograms was added to the lupron (prostrap) injection and my psa has fallen slowly to 6 so I assume it has been beneficial. I think it also reduced fatigue downside seems to be skin thining which means I cut and bruise easy.

As indicated by others it is a steroid and usually used alongside another treatment. Given with chemo or radiotherapy in stronger doses but shorter periods.

If taken daily then should be a small dose. Helps with fatigue and increases appetite. Can cause muscle waste though.

An alternate corticosteroid like predisone and prednisolone.

Used day before and day of chemo. Gave me bad insomnia for three days. Did not like it at all. Others here do not seem to report that issue.

Used it with Taxotere chemotherapy. Never heard of it as a mono therapy until now. Thanks for posting.

Dexamethasone is also known as Decadron. It is a steroid like Prednisone. Both drugs are a form of Adrenalin and are used for many diseases to help healing.
