I'm feeling rather frustrated atm for my husband. He had a high PSA and G9 but only 1 pelvic lymph node shows on scan.
I would really like him to have Abiraterone/Zytiga but it isn't available as a first line HT in the UK. All the positive stories I read are from people receiving this (although I know not guaranteed). It is only given down the line.
So I wondered if anyone has any positive chemo stories around long term pfs? As that's the only thing we can have (just looking for some optimism)
Also he's only on Zoladex so not sure whether to question oncologist on adding a second ADT?
Thank you

Hi TA, I'm afraid it's not as first line. It's only prescribed once CR. The only men who had it early were on the Stampede trial which is now closed : (
It’s also not available as “first line” in Australia. In fact it is not available under the Pharmaceuticals Benefits Scheme (PBS - aka subsidised payment scheme) until after you have had Chemo. There is a workaround, which my Onco used, if you are not suitable for Chemo. I have a heart condition.
Early chemotherapy has similar results to Zytiga in the STAMPEDE trial. It's still an excellent treatment to take early after diagnosis along with primary ADT, especially for those with extensive metastases. I did early chemotherapy, just before zytiga was approved for early use here in the US. Don't be afraid of it, the side effects are very tolerable for most and it does extend life expectancy when done early.
Except no real improvements for men with low burden (less than 5 mets) But great results for chemo with ADT for those with multiple mets. For castrate sensitive men with low burden mets, Zytega with lupron proven to reduce deaths 40%.
I have early Chemo, im in the Stampede trial , arm K which is early Chemo , Zoladex & metformin, finished the Chemo Dec 17 still on 3 monthly injection of Zoladex & metformin doing well so far, I had no mets that they could see.
I was GL 7(4+3), Stage IV with mets to ureter lymph nodes, PSA at 840 Dx in 01/2015. Had 6 Taxotere sessions, PSA still in teens and MedOnc said "I will give you more chemo until you tell me to stop, or the numbers plateau" I did 15 in 2015 and that allowed me to get to 0.7 PSA in 2016 and a nadir of 0.1 in 2017. Best to y'all theloopnewspaper.com/story/...
