John has been at Albany Medical Center since Monday. We had a nightmare ER experience at Northern Westchester and Westchester Medical that I’ll spare the details of.
Pulmonary Embolisms, multiple acute and subacute TIA’s and an elevated troponin were what was discovered.
He has regained his ability to say what he wants to say, will be on an anticoagulant for life.
We have an appointment with Dr Scott Tagawa for the 28th. We had hoped to use Dr Bob’s protocol but unless we can go to LA for the first of each three week cycle of chemo, he cannot-understandably- be Johns primary oncologist and Dr Ratner, who is willing to follow Dr Bobs protocol is not a specialist for APC.
What a journey! We hope john will be discharged today.
Please share experiences with Dr Tagawa...we need excellent guidance and support and hope a few of you have had this with him!
It’s a new day.

Last year I ended up in the hospital because of an unexpected Pulmonary Embolism which I found out is a side effect of ChemoTherapy treatments. My oncologist, who specializes in cancer treatment told me that this is common and many of his patients end up on blood thinners. At the hospital, they put me on a shot twice a day. My doctor changed my blood thinner to a medication called eliquis which has worked good. It is a newer drug with less side effects, although my co-pay for this pill is $200 for a 90 day supply.
I've communicated with Scott Tagawa in the past and found him to be very knowledgeable and caring. He is on the forefront of radiopharmaceuticals. IMHO there is no loss in not seeing Dr Bob - he has never published anything since 2009 and I suspect there is a good reason for that. His "therapy" may be dangerous.
Dr. Michael Morris is my MO, great and I highly recommend him. Here is a dated video from MSKcc with Dr.Morris.
Dr. Morris is 1 block away from Dr. Tagawa at Weill Cornell so if your'e coming down from Albany it's basically the same commute. I think MSKcc provides parking for patients but I don't drive there I use the NYC subways.
Thanks! We live an hour north of the city so no problem. We have an appointment with Dr Tagawa at 4:00 on the 28th, maybe we can get one with Dr Morris in the morning so we can see who feels like the best fit for us.
Hmmm I doubt it.... even his wife has to make appointments to see him six months in advance. But there are exceptions I guess (like for his girlfriends for instance).... Notice the S. 👀
