Had a TURP in November 2018 and they did a biopsy and found my Gleason 9 PC. Am starting to treat cancer with Zytiga/prednisone/lupron and hope for good news down the road on that issue. However, even after the TURP, I am retaining too much urine even though I can pee. So, my urologist has me self catheterizing three times a day in order to avoid bladder damage from retention. He says to wait it out but I see no improvement after 3 months since TURP. He has done a cytoscope and says there are no strictures or other obstructions in my urethra.
Has anyone else had this issue? Are my cancer meds contributing to the retention? Are my bladder muscles to blame? My urologist is not providing much in the way of answers or solutions. Hope this issue is not outside the scope of this site. Thanks.

You can try alpha-blockers and anti-spasmotics for the bladder. Ask your urologist if he has samples you can try - there are many different kinds and one may be right for you. My Uro likes Rapaflo (alpha blocker) and Vesicare (for bladder spasms).
Despite the TURP, my Dad had issues with his prostate and was on Flomax--you can see if your MD will put you on dutasteride (Avodart) --cost about $13 a month with GoodRx coupon...see study below with zytiga and dutasteride :
