Has anyone had experience with the Button Precedure to clear the urethra? My husband's Urologist has suggested he have this done before he receives radiation. He is self-cathetering at least 6 times a day because he is unable to urinate on his own. He has very aggressive prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9 and metastasis in the lymph nodes. Any information you can provide would be helpful.
Thank you.

The Button proceedure is a variation on the TURP proceedure. Once the prostate has been radiated, it is scarred and none of the other procedures will work. There is also a procedure (forget what it is called) where they put in clips and create a "parting of the sea" effect. Check into that.
With this procedure, there is no damage to the nerve and thus no leakage. With TURP there is always that possibility.
Thank you so much for your response. The information you provided is very helpful. If the name of the alternative clip precedure comes to mind I would really appreciate having the information. I could not find anything on the internet. In the meantime, my very best to you.
Do you mean prostatic arterial embolization? So far, it has not tested as effective as TURP, but may be OK for some patients. It is unknown how long its effects last.
I dont’t know what it is called. They insert a clip on either side of the prostate pulling it apart/ open. From what I understand he can then piss like a race horse. Your uro will know. I saw the video in my uros office.
Thank you all for responding to my question about the button procedure. I will talk to our Urologist about UroLift at our next appointment. It is truly a blessing to know you are all out there sharing and helping each other in so many ways. It is a comfort to know that I can come to you for your knowledge and support. God Bless each and everyone of you.
