Is diet even making any difference with this disease?

Hi all, my father's MO suggested that it really doesn't, although he advised to drastically cut the consumption of meat (especially red). I think it's important to eat healthy so the body can tolerate better the treatments and their nasty side effects.

Any thoughts about this subject? I would like some opinions from the users here.

I'm having my father eating healthy anyway and he feels good in fact but that's about it.

After failed surgery and salvage radiation, I gave up meat and alcohol and it made no difference to PSADT of 1 month. When PSA got to 2.5 Doc told me that he wanted to put me on ADT and I went hard core vegan. 6 weeks later PSA was 7.5 and I had no choice but to start ADT. 7 months late PSA was 47 and PCa had spread to liver and mesentery!! (oddly no bone mets).

The vegan diet has helped with general health. Body mass, Cholesterol, triglcerides, blood pressure all down significantly. I am asymptomatic and parodoxically I feel great. I know that this helped me breeze through chemo will virtually nil side effects. But I still know that I am slowly dying of this disease and diet has made zero difference.

YMMV.

I eat and drink whatever I want. I'm still on borrowed time just like the rest of us the difference is I'm enjoying my time left.

Yes that's what I do. I just got my blood work done and results are normal across the board, PSA undetectable. So I guess I'll have a nice Delmonico and wash it down with my favorite Scotch.

Delmonico, what is that? sounds nice. Wild Turkey is my poisen,on ice.

I will have that lutetium 177 next week which they say will put Psa back to 0.1 & give me 2 years 0 psa.

Think of Wild Turkey as the health tonic that keeps you going! Adjuvant therapy. I'm with you on that. I love a good old fashioned (not too sweet) with bourbon. I can rationalize just about anything :-)

Delmonico is essentially the same as a rib eye cut. Hard to beat. I do believe too much red meat is not a good thing, but every now then.....

Cheers.

Rib eye? here the best cut seems to be a porter house steak & yes we do not have red meat often,is very expensive here with the drought. Wild turkey on the rocks anyone?

I'm with you. Don't drink, but love my food and ice cream. Still very active and healthy. Ice cream helps me fight this beast. It hates chocolate chip ice cream you know..

I have a friend who is a vegan and it is a religion to him. He thinks it is a cure all for all illnesses. He and his wife always prepare a vegan split pea soup when I go there and it is the best tasting soup. I dont agree with what they say about vegan and cancer, but when somebody is into it like a religion, that is what they believe and facts dont matter.

Just to get him to stop preaching to me, I tried going on a medication holiday and went vegan for 6 months. After 6 months, got first trace of a bone met on a scan. I felt very good and lost a lot of weight but I immediately went back on meds and started taking a closer look at my scans from that point forward. I changed my diet back to a normal, but not too much meat, and I am doing well now.
