Many if not most PC treatments decrease bone density leading to osteoporosis. You should consider asking your doctor to order a bone density scan...known as a DEXA. Management of bone d4nsity should be part of every PCa protocol...but usually isn’t.
I agree. My MO started me on Prolia after the DEXA revealed I was close to osteoporosis having been on ADT for 5 years. Prolia isn't cheap but insurance covered it.
I had to ask for a DEXA and it revealed I was already into osteoporosis on one hip and close to it on the other. My MO started me on Zometa infusions every three months. Shows that if you are a patient you also need to be an advocate for yourself. MOs deal with hundreds of lives while you are interested in only one.
I was given Xgeva injection right from the start of ADT . from what I understand it is on the same level as Prolia
Hello. I have been using Zoladex continuously since September 2008 even though it is now failing to control my APC. My oncologist says that I should kept on it, maybe for life, I must ask her why next time I see her!
Start point was PSA 166, Gleasons 9, at present PSA now back up to around 140.
I have had all the usual side effects, still do. Vivid dreams, hot flushes which are bearable these days, lack of oomph and wasting muscle mass, tiredness, libido on a scale of 0 to 10 is about minus 5, etc.
Onco put me on Zytiga a few months ago but it was a failure so no more except I still take Prednisone for the time being.
I've had no specific joint problems but scans show weakened bones and some osteoarthritis, some of which must be age related I guess. I am now on a three monthly Prolia implant, My onco says that due to only one small bone met she wants to spare me any side effects from the more usual monthly Prolia regime.
I have trust in her care and I more or less do as I'm told, no point in fighting her or telling her fibs.
I have just finished a four week run of radiotherapy, the result will be interesting.
To wrap up, Zoladex is not an easy one but for me it has kept me out of the burner!
BTW, I'm 81 and generally enjoy my life but with eyes wide open to the eventual end point!
Good fortune!!!!!
