It depends, to some extent, on your own situation. Everyone’s situation is different, as is every medical oncologist. To date, I do not know of anyone taking Zytiga and docetaxel together, not that it hasn’t occurred. I just finished chemo in March. I asked my oncologist at the Mayo in Jax about starting Zytiga. He recommended against it for now. Wants to see how the chemo does and save the Zytiga for later. His rationale, in my specific case, was that my PSA was undetectable even before the chemo, my lone pelvic bone tumor has been dormant for nearly 2 years, I am asymptotic, and that right now I don’t qualify for Medicare and insurance coverage of the Zytiga right now because my Gleason is below 8, I have no visceral metastasis, and only have one metastatic bone lesion. He noted that, like chemo, Zytiga, which is given with prednisone, has both short and long term side effects, and has to be taken long term. He suggested I save the Zytiga for later.
Once again, that is based on my own individual set of circumstances. Yours may differ, and because of that your MO may recommend a different treatment protocol.
