Looks like NY doesn’t have this important law yet. For a supposed progressive state, this is shameful. Smells of the hand of slimy lobbyists. So many states already have this critical law. I hope and urge all of us make our voices heard to push states that don’t have this law to do the righteous thing and push through the greed holding this up. Together we can be heard.

Right to Try law for NY
These laws are so easy to pass because they are basically BS.
Real pharmaceutical companies aren't interested and don't participate. The laws do not require them to.
Repubs will not vote for any such laws with real teeth.
And it really isn't so easy to write a good law that does this properly at the state level. It really needs to be done at the Federal level. There the pharmaceutical companies own too many votes for anything truly useful to pass.
If you want to change this, go to your federal representatives, meet with them face to face, tell them that you are a single issue voter... and really really mean it. Then write them out a $100 check.
Do this every recess. And never give them a hint on what your other political views are. Not a hint.
thanks
Not really knowing anything about the "right to try" laws I searched Google and found lots of articles pertaining to them. It looks like the laws are wildly popular with the public, but not so much with health professionals.
One interesting argument I saw for the laws was that, if we believe in "right to die" legislation, which I understand as a right for doctors to assist in suicides in certain carefully prescribed cases, then why not a right to try experimental drugs in carefully prescribed circumstances? If it should be legal to get access to a drug to kill yourself, why shouldn't it be legal to get access to a drug that might help keep you alive?
But of course that argument just addresses one facet of a multi-faceted problem.
Chairman Mao famously said, "Life is complicated." It turns out that death is complicated too.

For those who may not be familiar with it, there is already an existing FDA Expanded Access (Compassionate Use) program that provides a pathway for patients to gain access to investigational drugs, biologics and medical devices for serious diseases or conditions. It has been around for years. Complete information here, for those who want/need it:
