As I wrote yesterday about the formula change, and that I was going to call the company, about the formula change. I spent over an hour giving the head of R&D and Quality Assurance a dictatorial on my knowledge and that I was the one that brought the current CO2 technology to this country. They listened and tried to make their arguments, that they in a way kept the % of ingredients the same and kept ingedient label order. I explained the real science aspects of what they had done and we hit an impasse. I will explain later in this post, the science aspects.
ANYWAY I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF BY E-MAIL YOU WOULD WRITE TO
<INFO@NEWCHAPTER.COM> Attention Mr. Paul Schulick, President. You can also send a separate email to Attention Andy Pennoni, Director of Quality Assurance. And make your opinions or voices known. If you wish to call you may get Mr. Pennoni, as a Customer Service Person will only go so far. But, Tel. # is 888-874-4461
Here's the boilerplate response I received today 04/06/2018:
Hello John,
Thank you for your inquiry, we want to address the concerns you brought forth in your email. New Chapter is continually looking to source the best quality ingredients for our products. Turmeric is one of the herbs that we feel passionately about, and we continually strive to find the best source to deliver in our formulations. To that end, we discovered that we could deliver a turmeric extract using only water as the extraction solvent and still maintain the same level of quality to our consumers. While this came at an extra cost to us, we felt that this extra expense was worth it to continue to deliver the wisdom of nature.
Specifically, in the case of Zyflamend™ Whole Body, the amount of turmeric provided (110 mg) has remained consistent for over a decade and the turmeric (Curcuma longa) continues to be sourced from dual extracts of the plant rhizome. You are correct that for many years the 100 mg amount was delivered as a hydroethanolic extract. The majority of the turmeric (100 mg) now comes from an aqueous extract, with the remaining 10 mg from organic supercritical extract.
To ensure New Chapter remained consistent with our commitment to using the highest quality materials, the aqueous extract was tested using various methods, including UHPLC and HRMS, to ensure that product quality was maintained. Testing confirmed that the chromatograms of the aqueous and hydroethanolic extracts were essentially equivalent. The dual combination of aqueous and supercritical extracts continue to provide important turmeric constituents including curcumin and turmerones.
In addition, our decision to include the phrase: “100% vegetarian, Same Great Formula” on product packaging was designed to inform our customers that the Zyflamend™ formula inside the capsule did not change when New Chapter began using 100% vegetarian capsules. The use of the aqueous extract does not change the formula; Zyflamend™ continues to deliver dual extracts of turmeric and provides 110 mg as listed on the product label.
As New Chapter products are dietary supplements and not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, we advise you consult with your healthcare provider to discuss your individual health concerns.
Thank you,
Audree Allen
