The positive effect of sleep on the immune system

Back before I was first diagnosed, I noticed how much better I felt in the morning after a good night sleep and how I got worse as the day went on. Of course my body ultimately could not keep up with the advancing cancer, but it appears that my immune system was making an effort. Right before I started treatment, I took an trip to Europe that turned out to be a big mistake. I could not sleep on the long flight and ended up going over 24 hours without sleep. After losing that much sleep, I was incredibly weak and could only walk around 20 feet before sitting down. I returned right away, but needed wheelchair assistance the entire way back. Once I started getting normal sleep again I improved although I was still in a lot of pain. I started treatment soon after.

Here's an article on the subject:

That’s an incredibly scarey trip that you had. Great article. Totally true. If we don’t sleep well,we don’t heal well and Our immunity is affected negatively. Hope you’re sleeping well now with sweet dreams. Wife had not seen sopranos so we’ve been binging for a week . I wake up in the morning sometimes reciting the characters names, Big Pussy , Ralphie Chris, and Tony the hero . The guy Paulie has APC. Even gangsters aren’t immune madong!

That was one of scariest times in my life. Being so far from home, and so sick, thinking about how was I going to make it back. I remember being in the Madrid airport which is very big, just trying to get to my next gate and seeing the sign saying it was a 24 minute walk. I could go no more than 20 feet without sitting down for five minutes. It was the worst nightmare of my life. Thank God for wheelchair assistance at airports which I discovered there. Those people are angels.

Last time in Madrid they were preparing for the olympics. Everything was under construction. Bad traffic . The sangria was good however.

That was a very scary incident for you, and a great article. think of the same possibilities whenever I plan any long range trips. It’s always good to use the wheelchair and other assistance offered by airlines and airports. Getting a good night’s sleep is so important to immune system health and general health and energy levels. Thanks for sharing your story and the article.

I just can't say enough about how fantastic the people are who do wheelchair services in airports. I used them in 4 different countries and everytime they were wonderful. I was really depressed at the time. They were so positive and friendly, I almost cried more than one time. They need to get more recognition.

More recognition and more pay. I’m guessing they make at or just above minimum wage, and that they don’t get that much in tips.

So any hints on how to get a better nights sleep? I have a hard time falling to sleep. And thenI am usually up every couple of hours for a bathroom trip.

I have that problem also. My wife has been giving me hemp oil capsules lately. She has this silly idea that it helps fight cancer but it seems to help with getting a good nights sleep. It doesn’t get you high and it’s legal so what the hell.

One of the best sleep meds I've used is a good Cannabis Indica which doesn't get you "high". Used it one night and only woke up once. The one time I did wake up, my whole body felt like it had been messaged for a couple of hours. Totally relaxing. You only need a little, at least that's how it is for me.

Thanks Gregg. Where do you get it?

A medical cannabis dispensary. There are a lot of them here in California. We were the first medical state. Where are you located?

Ca. I will look for a local store and give it a try.

Do you have a medical card? You can get one fairly quickly if not. I can also direct you to some websites if you need more information about the various strains, etc.

I guess they started selling "recreational" cannabis now so you if you can find a store close enough, you wouldn't need a card. It will cost more because of the taxes.

I still prefer to have a card because of the stupid Federal Schedule 1 listing. There is a law on the books right now that does not allow federal money to be spent prosecuting medical users. Not that it would happen, just gives me more peace of mind.

My wife gets it at a local store that sells medical marijuana and other marijuana products. The hemp oil I get doesn’t require a prescription because it doesn’t have any THC in it.
