A phase 2 trial is starting in January 2018. Here's a link:

I guess this one is the compassinate use trial.

It’s so weird because I’ve not heard of this drug. I’m wondering why they would allow it for compassionate use when so many others in clinical trials are not....

I think it's mainly a decision of the drug company, provided they can get approval for it.
