So tomorrow Paul will have his first infusion of Carbo Platin. We have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, we are really happy that the treatment can be resumed now with this form of Chemotherapy which will specifically target the liver mets. On the other hand, we are nervous when we think of what this Chemotherapy might bring in terms of side-effects. And, of course and although we know that these thoughts are neither helpful nor useful, we think "And what if it doesn't help?" Thankfully, that last thought comes in only very rarely.
Paul has been quite well over the past couple of days. On Saturday night we went out to see Eckhart Tolle live. And on Sunday his niece was over for coffee and a long catch up meeting. Yesterday he was well enough to pick me up from work.
We are drinking a lot of lemon water at the moment, just water with a slice of lemon in it, it is supposed to be good for the liver. And he wants me to put a few drops of Frankincense essential oil on his liver to see if it helps it - which I do because I hope that it helps.
Best wishes to all of you from a rainy Dublin where autumn has certainly arrived!
Mel and Paul.

That sounds excellent Mel, so pleased that Paul is improving for you. Love to you both from leafy Twickenham in the shadow of the best rugby stadium in the World. Am popping out shortly for a quiet 30 minutes in St James Church where I was baptised, 1st confession, Communion and Confirmation. Strange I am back here having lived 7 years in Yorkshire and 5 in Greece. Stay Well.
This church you are going to for some peace and quiet sounds really like a perfect place to, as we say in mindfulness meditation, come home to yourself and what most matters to you. Well done on going there. I am sure it does you good.
Yes, we feel very prepared for this new Chemo treatment and we are hoping that it will help.
What has also helped us a lot over the past couple of days are the memories of how we met and how magical it all was and how much this magic, this deep longing to be together and spend the rest of our lives together, helped us to cope with everything and simply to make this work, for me to leave Germany and to come to Ireland, for Paul to leave his old home, to find a flat in Dublin... It is wonderful to think that the same magic could work for us now and make this therapy work...
You will certainly make it work, I feel it and will continue to pray for you both. I cannot pray for myself as the Christian Brothers here were superseded for me by the Jesuits. You're, my home church, my family memories and quiet relaxation. David
Thanks David. Ah well, I always say: It doesn't matter how you pray or where you pray or what church one belongs to. It is the heartfulness that counts! Mel.
Were you born & raised in Germany? Even though I know German kids learn English in school, I would never have guessed that you didn't live in an English-speaking country all your life. I have admired your excellent English writing skills ever since you joined this forum!
I have been taking docetaxol and carbo platin for my liver mets. On 6th round. My liver #'s and scans of liver mets show marked improvement and reduction in size. Best of Luck to you.
Side effects have been tough, but living through it. Extreme fatigue, some muscle pain (like the flu), nausea, hair loss, etc. Slowly getting less severe with time.
I am so glad that your Chemotherapy combination has been quite successful. Yes, the side-effects must have been difficult to bear, but it was all worth it in the end! Good luck to you from both of us. Mel.
We finished round 4 of Carboplatinum. I have heard from one of the nurses that Loratadine helps with the muscle aches. They are not sure why. We found being prepared helps a lot. Make sure they prescribe you anti-Nausia medication and hopefully you won't need it. We always have anti-Diarrhea medication on hand and take at the first sign of that. Also I like to have some ginseng around to help with the fatigue.. The first round we did a little bit of the BRAT diet - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and toast. We have not needed it much since then. You can get through this! I hope this helps!
Hi. We are back home now after a long day in hospital. It was very busy today. Paul is watching some TV now and I am getting a little bit more office work done before settling down to either watch some TV with him or to listen to my audio book.
Thank you all for your posts. We will keep you posted about how it goes. But we feel quite positive towards this treatment.
Oh, and by the way, Paul's liver markers in the blood look a little bit better than before. Doctors are not sure why. But we are really happy with that.
Moses was high on Frankincense when he jumped into the Nile and killed a Gator and ate the Gator's liver as a treatment for his PCa. Moses then took his rage out on a Roman guard and blamed the killing of the guard on FrankinRage. God did not buy the FrankinRage excuse, because Moses could have used a Vantas Implant, and banned Moses from The Promised Land. The moral of the story is don't take Frankincense before hunting a Gator.
The story I heard about why the Israelites wandered for 40 years in the desert was because Moses wouldn't stop and ask for directions.
(For some reason, wives seem to find that more amusing than their husbands.)
Personally, I've been better about that kind of thing since being on Lupron, and now Xtandi, for almost 4 years - no longer so "testosterone poisoned", as it were.
The first week - last week - was very difficult because he had no appetite whatsoever and got sick quite often. Also his other pain was quite bad despite the Methadone.
On Thursday we went to hospital where his Methadone dose was increased for the pain and where he was put back on Prednisolone - the doctor said that Paul might be missing that after all those years he had been on it and that that would increase his energy-levels as well as give him some appetite. He also got a second anti-sickness medication that he has to take together with the Maxolon now.
He has been a lot better since Thursday. Eating well. Keeping everything down. And the pain is under control.
