Hello everyone! My name is Caroline. I am a graduate student and ADHDer in Tennessee who is working to complete my Master's thesis. I am conducting a study to learn more about the impact of exercise on the executive functions of young adults with ADHD and/or other mental health concerns.
This study will assess the impact of aerobic exercise volume on the inhibitory control of 18–30-year-olds with ADHD symptoms. The only requirement for this survey is that participants be within the 18-30 age range.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the online survey below. Your participation is greatly appreciated!
StudentResearcher1, Very important topic of study thanks for doing the research. I'd like to participate but I'm out of your age range by a factor of 2. Two points about ADHD and swimming that may be of background interest for you. I have ADHD (inattentive/ executive function challenged), I am taking Adderall and in my 50-60's while swimming (1500 yards normally) I could tell a distinct difference in my ADHD mental state whenever I reached the 600 yard distance. This change lasted some 3-4 hours. Second, I had a student in my class (college level) who suddenly exhibited pronounced ADHD symptoms. I talked with this student about noticing a change in his behavior in class, first identifying that I had ADHD, he replied that he had just quit the university swim team and that without all the strenuous exercise his ADHD symptoms increased dramatically.
Thank you for this comment and for sharing your experience! Wow- it's fascinating to hear about how exercise has impacted your symptoms, and especially how you noticed a lasting change after reaching the 600 yd distance. Your student's experience is also very interesting, and highlights the role exercise may play in managing certain symptoms. Thanks again for your input and interest in my research!
