Preparing for a job interview in UK

Diagnosed Moderate Inattentive ADHD in November.

Made redundant in February.

Applying for jobs, got my first interview on Friday.

Just started my prescription for Methylphenidrate 10mg 3 days ago

What do you think I should declare to the employer, and how to best get prepared for the interview?

it's been 13 years since I was last applying for a job, I am a little out of practice. Advice is sought.

Personally I wouldn’t declare anything at the interview stage. If they offer you the job, and after you’ve finished the probation period then you could tell them about your diagnosis if you want to. I haven’t told my employer, and I don’t intend to. I take my meds, do a good job them (in my opinion), and get paid for it.

The only reason to tell them, I think, is if you want some kind of understanding for why you find some parts of the job more difficult. E.g. paperwork. But with the medication you might find that some of the things that used to be difficult are now a bit easier. Including the interview! Good luck!

I agree with MisterUnderstood. There’s no need to tell your employer. If you did a good job before you can do a good job again, it will just be easier for you maybe! Not all employers are understanding of neurodiversity and it may make them more prejudice to any normal human mistakes you make and they may wrongly assume you’re a liability! Definitely figure them out first before you consider revealing anything about yourself that you don’t have to. Even if a company seems very clued up and forward thinking it doesn’t mean your direct manager will be. Good luck. I hope the methylphenidate does the trick for you.
