I went back to school after trying to finish my degree for many years. I found myself with this diagnosis which has been the reason for so many setbacks and problems in my academic and professional career. Here to learn, find answers, support, experiences, and referrals.

Welcome! I'm in your same situation with the late diagnosis, although I made it through undergrad (with a couple of withdrawals over 5 years). But later, I struggled trying to do graduate classes, and the reason is so obvious now: I just couldnt get myself to write the long paper and it would take 4-ever to learn new stuff. My mind kept jumping away and all my previous study techniques werent' helping. I wish I had known I had ADHD and could have sought note-taking help and coaching from the school!

How awesome that you're going ahead with the degree now. And how much more relevant that recent degree will be than one from 20+ years ago, given all the recent changes in society and technology. 💃

Indeed. I have met enough PhDs who have ADHD and are doing well, so I am optimistic I can do at least a Master's degree after my undergrad. Today I enrolled in an NHI study about Genetic, Brain Structure, and Environmental Effects on ADHD. I will go to Maryland at the end of November for the ADHD/ADD Conference and will take the opportunity to participate in this study while I am there.

Bright.

I think it's great they you're going back to school and now diagnosed.

I also think it's great that you get to do the study and attend the conference.

My own time in college consisted of: 5 schools, 5 majors, 9 years attending as an undergrad spread over 22 years...and still no degree. Dx'd with ADHD at age 45.

I hope to be able to go back to school in the next few years, now that my ADHD is well treated, if I can figure out how to pay for school.

I'd like to be part of a study, and I'd like to attend an ADHD conference. Most of the studies I find out about are for children, or for people in certain geographic areas.

Go to the NIH Website. Start writing emails to the people conducting studies and when they have a study for adults they will let you know. The Conference in at the end of November 2023.

Last night I enrolled in 3 more studies at the UCLA Brain Mapping Center. They have some studies for people our age. Check them out.

Thanks for letting me know!

I hope it doesn't require the I live near UCLA. I moved out of SoCal almost 20 years ago. (I'm on the other side of the country, now.)

I checked last night, and again this morning, and didn't find any studies that I qualify for. I live in a rural area in western New York state, so Rochester is the only place near me where any ADHD studies are done.

I'm open to online or phone interview studies, but I haven't found any that I qualify for.

I'll keep checking from time to time.
