ADHD testing

What’s the testing process for ADHD like? I have an appointment coming up in three days, and it’s apparently two separate meetups. I’m also in the grieving process, so I’m not sure if that will interfere.

I suppose the test varies from place to place, but I’m wondering what the general process is.

Hi Scarlett,

Nice to meet you and welcome! Sounds like an initial testing phase followed by a review of the results and recommendations to move forward. Pretty standard stuff in my opinion. I am worried for you that your grieving and getting a potential diagnosis will overwhelm you into to a cycle of inactivity to handle this. My condolences for your loss and if you wish to talk we’re hear to listen. But my number one piece of advice is don’t isolate yourself. If the emotions get to much talk to some one, anyone that will listen and can help you work through the overwhelm. I went 15 years without seeking help and it cost me years. Don’t be like me and keep talking to people even if it feels like it hurts. At the end of the day if you can take one step forward to handling the diagnosis and the loss of your loved ones thats a reason to celebrate. But the big part is you have to do it again the next day and the next.

Sincerely,

Brian Weber

Thank you for the condolences, I really appreciate it. Yes, I believe I have lost out on a lot due to not having the right diagnosis. I hope this appointment will serve me well, because I’m at the end of my rope.

ADHD’s greatest weapon against you right now will be to overwhelm you into inaction. I encourage you to come directly here to the community to discuss what ever you find out with your diagnosis. STAY ACTIVE!!! Even if you post something that seems like venting after the diagnosis. The important part is to keep taking small steps forward.

I am sorry for your loss. It does get better but it takes time. Everyone grieves in their own way. There is no standard or normal way of grieving so to speak. Find someone to talk with. It can be a pastor, counselor, grief support group, etc 🙏

You worried about grief interfering with the diagnosis? No need for that. By the time many folks are diagnosed, there is a lot of grief and demoralization.

Testing varies ... one extreme ... multiple hours long ... other extreme ... a short form to answer questions on ... and conversation with the provider.
