pre-employment drug test and adhd/adderall?

 Hello family

I got a new job offered today but I'm worried about the pre-employment drug test. Never had this issue before as I started taking adderall recently (about 5 months). I've been taking zoloft for 5 years.

It's a new opportunity for me and I really hope to keep the job for me. Any inputs please? What do I need to know or do?

As long as you have a prescription for the Adderall. You should not have any problems. Take the bottle with you to your drug test

Everyone over 40 is on some medication. Over 50, multiple medications, sometimes many.

It's illegal drugs you have to avoid. Not legal medications.

In all honesty, I’m not sure if it will show up. I took vyvanse when drug tested and it came back clean. But if it does come back and show up just tell them you have a prescription and that you can get a doctors note if needed. I informed the district manager about my medication beforehand and he said he doesn’t care and it’s not his business until HR calls him up saying there’s a problem. 🤷‍♂️

I had to drug test too. When I submitted the sample to the lab, they actually told me not to tell them what I was taking, but I'd written it on the form. It was fine. Once they process the urine, before they give the final results to your employer or HR, they call you to have you confirm if they found anything that was positive, that you have a prescription for it. They might not have told me what they found but they asked me what related prescriptions I may have.

Yes, had multiple tests. It never an issue as long as you have your Rx. Annoying sometimes, but never a real issue.

Hi there Hopefullymoon,

Congratulations on your new job offer!! I hope my message isn't too late, but I wanted to make a suggestion, too - the key is to being transparent with them about all/any medications they might be testing for (generally stuff like ADHD, pain med).

Last year I ended up in the ER and they asked if I take any (illegal) drugs. Well, my response was 'no', because I assumed my RXs weren't illegal. When they did the drug test, my results were positive - because I take adderral and vyvance! But initially they didn't believe me and acted like I was taking drugs.

Had I be transparent to begin with, I am confident they wouldn't have been so judgmental (and I felt like they thought I was a liar *and* a drug user!!!)

Huge congrats on the job offer! Totally get the pre-employment jitters, especially with the drug test. Adderall and Zoloft can show up, but a heads-up to the testing team about your prescriptions usually helps. Maybe bring along proof too? And hey, just in case, consider those aichek.com/collection/drug-... ; having them around could ease your mind.
