Adderall and dry mouth

Adderall has definitely improved my quality of life with the exception of my extremely dry mouth.

Drinking copious amounts of water doesn’t seem to help much and by the end of the day my tongue is like sandpaper!

My appetite has been affected my this since nothing sounds good to eat when my tongue feels so bad.

Am using dry mouth mouthwash and should probably use it more throughout the day.

Any commiseration and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Hi! I recently started on Adderall and also get dry mouth. I use sparkling water a lot more than flat water, or tea. When it's especially bad, a hard candy seems to help me out.

I can't speak for others, but it's the only side effect that doesn't subside. Keep regular dental appointments because regardless of Biotene etc you will get a lot more cavities than others do. What they call Meth Mouth is from having a dry mouth and a lack of care. Biotene and your dentist are your two new best friends.

TheraBreath Dry Mounth Lozenges. I found this product after I had sinus surgery and had to breath through my mouth for awhile. I use it now for my dry mouth. It helps for awhile and it tastes good to me.

Everyone keeps recommending lozenges, however my tongue is so dry it’s like sandpaper so lozenges irritate it.Appreciate the suggestion, but I reckon there is really no good answer

I’ve experienced this side effect with both Adderrall and Ritalin, although it was far worse with Adderrall for me. The only things that helped were drinking tons of water and sucking on mints. If it’s really unbearable, it might be worth trying a different medication. Good luck.

I too am on Adderall that gives me excessive dry mouth, GERD, and a raspy voice . I use a spray mouth moisturizer and try to drink more water. I have a 10 hour phone job where I am constantly talking on the phone. I have scheduled calls every 20 mins...my mouth and lips get extremely dry. I am unable suck on candy or drink water during calls and there isn’t much time in between to finish a piece of hard candy. A humidifier does help.

Hi! I get horrible dry mouth too. I now swear by OraCoat Xylimelt dry mouth wash and the sticky lozenges. The wash (and Xylichew gum) should get enough moisture going to tolerate the lozenges. I get them at rite aid, and absolutely swear by them.

If all else fails, consult your dentist. They have all the info about mouth health. Lack of saliva is a pretty serious issue for your teeth.

Good luck, and I hope you find relief!

Thank you ever so much! These are new products I’m not familiar with. Will definitely give them a try.

Did indeed speak to my dental hygienist who also happens to be on Adderall. She didn’t suggest those

I use the OraCoat xylimelts when I sleep and it seems to help. My dental health is terrible and I am really diligent in my dental care. My dentist did not have much to offer and actually said that constant sipping of water dilutes your saliva and may make the condition worse. I am seriously thinking of trying to find a different medication even though I have done so well on Adderall otherwise. Has anyone tried switching medication? What has worked?
